Welcome to another edition of my "Disney live-action fan casting" series, in which I take a classic animated film and try to find the right actors to portray the film on-screen today. With many Disney films, the characters are animals, and so we can only cast their voices, but this still takes work to get right, because the voice of any animated character is incredibly important in bringing them to life. Check out who I've found for the roles below.

Nicholas Hoult As Bernard

This one didn't take long to think of because Nicholas Hoult is perfect for this role. Bernard is a bumbling guy who only wants to help everyone he can, which is why he works for the Rescuers. Nicholas Hoult is exactly the same when he brings Dr. Hank McCoy, a.k.a. Beast, to the screen in the X-Men films. His bumbling, friendly persona is matched only by his desire to help the X-Men. Hoult's voice work has started getting attention as well, and he is playing one of the infamous rabbits in the upcoming Watership Down miniseries, a good preparation for the role of Bernard.

Emily Blunt As Bianca

If Bernard is bumbling and clumsy, then Bianca is elegant and exotic. Emily Blunt has proved before that she has a great ability for accents, and her wide range includes the ultimate bad-ass Rita in Edge of Tomorrow and Queen Victoria in Young Victoria. In addition to this, she's already played important women with her voice alone, such as Juliet in Gnomeo and Juliet, and she's about to be Mary Poppins! She can definitely sing, and she has a fantastic voice for the sort of woman (or mouse) that Bianca is.

Erin Gerasimovich As Penny

It's hard work finding a child who is able to act as a prisoner, so why not use one who has already done it? Erin Gerasimovich starred as Anna Dover in Prisoners, where she was held prisoner for the entire film. She pulled off the performance despite her age, and could do the same again (in an albeit larger role) as Penny, the little girl taken by the villainous Medusa, and eventually saved by Bernard and Bianca.

Jessica Lange As Medusa

Now for Medusa herself — an energetic, evil character who has about as much regard for Penny's life as she has for the life of her accomplice, Snoops. She's a true villain, in the style of Cruella de Vil, with a taste for diamonds and apparently nothing else. She likes her alligators though, so there's that. Anyway, Jessica Lange proved throughout her tenure in American Horror Story that she can play pretty much anything, changing from season to season in her usually creepy and villainous roles. She'd be excellent for a Disney villain role such as this.

Hank Azaria As Orville

There ain't no changing this role as far as I'm concerned. Hank Azaria played Orville in and should do it again because the man has always had a fantastic voice for this kind of work, which is so unique you would hate to see him replaced. I won't even try, simple as that.

Jonah Hill As Snoops

Jonah Hill has masterful comedic timing that would lend itself with ease to the role of the sniveling Snoops, obeying Medusa's every command no matter how vicious or abusive she gets. He's played similar roles in less kid friendly films like The Wolf of Wall Street, and wouldn't have trouble transitioning into this character.

That's all folks! Who do you think could bring these characters to life if The Rescuers is brought back to the big screen? Let me know in the comments and check out more of these fan casts below.
