It's been two years since the bittersweet finale of How I Met Your Mother. There's nothing left to tell in the story of Ted, Robin, Barney, Lily and Marshall — and after that ending, who could take any more heartbreak, honestly?
When the series first ended, #HowIMetYourMother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas created a pilot for How I Met Your Dad, which starred Greta Gerwig and Meg Ryan as narrator, but the pilot never got picked up.
But now, thanks to This Is Us writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, #HowIMetYourFather is back on the table at Fox! The idea for the plot is still the same, just gender reversed. In addition to the new writers, it will have an all new cast and characters. Bays and Thomas will be on board as executive producers, but unfortunately won't be able to be directly involved due to their deal with competitor Sony Television.
There's no information yet on casting or when the show will premiere, but while we wait for the details to trickle in, let the fancasting begin! Leave your own suggestions in the comments.
The Romantic - Dreama Walker
Dreama Walker already has the doe-eyed romantic role down from Don't Trust the B— In Apartment 23. She'd be the perfect future-married-lady to center this series around.
The Married Best Friend - Yael Stone
Lorna Morello might be totally unhinged in Orange Is The New Black, but that's all thanks to the impressive acting chops of Yael Stone. Why not give her the chance to try her skills on a character that's slightly more down to earth?

The Other Married Best Friend - Lamorne Morris
You probably recognize Lamorne Morris from New Girl, where he plays Zooey Deschanel's off-beat roommate Winston Bishop. Like Marshall, Winston's equal parts whimsical, weird, and a supportive friend. Plus, he and Stone would have great chemistry together as the married couple of the gang.
The Single Bro - Kaley Cuoco
Now that her schedule might be freeing up, Kaley Cuoco would make a great addition to the cast of How I Met Your Father. By now she's got a Ph.D. in situation comedy, and could add a whole new level of hilarity to the mix. Think some combination of Penny, Barney Stinson and Samantha Jones.
The Soulmate - Adan Canto
35-year-old Adan Canto currently plays Kiefer Sutherland's Chief of Staff on Designated Survivor. While he usually sticks to drama instead of comedy, maybe he'd be willing to make an exception? It's not hard to picture both Dreama Walker and Kaley Cuoco's characters falling for this handsome creature, and like Colbie Smulders (Robin), he's more than just a pretty face.
