Now, when news broke yesterday that #Deadpool director Tim Miller has departed the upcoming #Deadpool2, reportedly due to creative differences with the film's leading man, #RyanReynolds, fans were unsurprisingly stunned. After all, the franchise was something of a passion project for Miller, and one that has made him hot property in Hollywood. With any sequel likely to do similarly huge business, it seemed a no brainer that he would stay on board (with a suitably increased salary, of course) and reap the benefits of even more superheroic success. That, though, was not to be, leaving devotees of the franchise little choice but to daydream about some of the potential candidates to replace Miller. Which, in gloriously internet-like fashion, has led to the glorious reality in which we now live, within which...

Fans Are Trying To Get Quentin Tarantino To Direct Deadpool 2

Specifically, intrepid petitioner Carl Champion Jr has taken to to petition Ryan Reynolds and Fox to improbably hire #QuentinTarantino — the writer/director of the critically acclaimed likes of Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Django Unchained to direct Deadpool 2.

Yup, that Quentin Tarantino. The one with the penchant for pop-culture-referencing, ever-quipping, blood-soaked tales of revenge, criminality and over-the-top antiheroes, and who...wait a minute. That's...actually pretty much the perfect résumé for Deadpool 2. Hold on a second: Is Quentin Tarantino actually the perfect person to fill the newly vacant director's chair on Deadpool's upcoming sequel? Is that the next twist 2016 has in store for us?

...Could This Actually Happen?

Well, sadly, probably not. While Tarantino's work may well suggest that he'd be tonally all-but-perfect for the role — it also helps that he's a massive comic book nerd, of course — he's also a notoriously independently-minded filmmaker, and has tended to steer clear of the studio system as a result. What's more, with Miller apparently having departed the franchise as a result of his vision for the movie conflicting with Reynolds's, it seems distinctly unlikely that Fox would approach a famously "challenging" auteur to take his place.

That being said, it hardly hurts to dream — and Champion Jr's pitch is pretty darned compelling:

"If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it. We got a great taste of what this could be like in 'Kill Bill,' but imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for The Merc with the Mouth! It would be so glorious. Join me!"

It may well (all but certainly) not happen, but if you're inclined to help fight against the odds, you can find the petition right here. And either way, lets keep everything crossed that Deadpool 2 stays on track for its scheduled January 2018 release.
