Fast 8 trailer

The official trailer for The Fate of the Furious dropped on December 11 in a worldwide event. Not only did the trailer debut, but the brand new movie title was also released along with a new official synopsis. While the trailer showed the to-be-expected amount of amazing stunts, fans were shocked to see Deckard Shaw and Dom swapping sides and Dom kissing another woman!

Fast 8 release date

The release date for The Fate of the Furious is currently set for April 14, 2017 in America and the UK, almost exactly two years after the most recent film in the Fast and Furious series, Furious 7.

Fast 8 plot

Read the newly released synopsis for The Fate of the Furious here:

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game — and the rest of the crew has been exonerated — the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

Fast 8 cast

Many of our favorite cast members are returning for this next installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, which is sure to please fans world wide. Take a look at the Fast 8 cast list below:

Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto: He's been in it since the beginning, and even though he's also been working on xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 there's no way another Fast and Furious film is being made without Vin.

Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Toretto: Having also appeared in many of the previous installments, Rodriguez is returning for her fifth appearance in the franchise.

Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce: Tyrese joined the franchise in the second film, and also returns for Fast 8. Aside from this franchise, you'll also recognize Gibson from his part in the Transformers series.

Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges as Tej Parker: Hip hop star and actor, Ludacris is reprising his role as Tej.

Dwayne Johnson as Agent Luke Hobbs: Dwayne Johnson jumps back into the franchise in Fast 8, but aside from his role as Hobbs he's also working on a ton of projects including Disney's Moana, Baywatch and the Jumanji reboot.

Charlize Theron as Cipher: One of the biggest stars in the world has joined the cast of Fast 8, with the addition of the Mad Max: Fury Road actress, who is set to play a villain.

Fast 8 characters

We've got a lot of old favorites coming back for this next installment, but there's also many fresh faces. Take a look at the Fast 8 characters who are confirmed to appear.

Fast family

Dom, Letty, Roman, Tej, Hobbs and Sean are all back!
Dom, Letty, Roman, Tej, Hobbs and Sean are all back!

Dominic Toretto: The patriarch of the family will once again return to the franchise, though this time there'll be a gapping hole at his side thanks to the absence of the late Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner.

Letty Toretto: Dom's right-hand woman and wife, Letty was still working through her problems after the amnesia suffered in Fast & Furious during Furious 7. However there's no doubt she'll be in top form for Fast 8.

Roman Pearce: The fast talking, wise-cracker of the group, Roman Pearce was originally brought into the fold because he was a friend of Brian's, but years later he's returning in Fast 8 as a firm member of the fam.

Taj Parker: Another old friend of Brian's, Tej is the technician expert of the group, and judging by his confirmed appearance in Fast 8, it looks like he's still very much needed by the gang.

Hobbs: He didn't start out as a member of the family, but after three films he's proved his loyalty to the Dom's crew, and he'll likely do the same in Fast 8.

Sean Boswell: First appearing in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Sean was brought back into the franchise when we learned in Furious 7 that Deckard Shaw killed Han. No doubt Sean will be out for revenge when he returns to the franchise in Fast 8.

The returning supporting players

Mr Nobody, Elena, Ramsey and Deckard Shaw will return
Mr Nobody, Elena, Ramsey and Deckard Shaw will return

Mr. Nobody: Arriving on the scene in Furious 7, government agent 'Mr. Nobody' will return with a bigger role in Fast 8.

Deckard Shaw: Imprisoned at the end of Furious 7, Deckard's inclusion in Fast 8 probably means bad news for the Fast Family.

Elena Neves: Elena has been in the series since Fast Five, and the incorruptible DSS agent will be back, presumably assisting Hobbs, once again in Fast 8.

Ramsey: We first met Ramsey in Furious 7 after she created the God's Eye program, and it looks like this smart computer hacker will be back in Fast 8.

The new crew

Cipher: Little is known about this new addition apart from the fact that she will be a villain who persuades Dom to come over to the criminal side! It will also be the first time in the franchise a villain has been female!

Kristofer Hivju's character/Cipher's henchman: We have no details on this character aside from the fact that he will be Cipher's henchman.

Scott Eastwood's character: Unfortunately we have no details on this character yet, not even a name.

Helen Mirren's character: Like Eastwood's character, we have very few details on this character, but we can't wait to hear more about her.

Fast 8 cars

While the actors in the Fast and Furious franchise are great, everyone knows the real stars are the insane cars that show up in each film. And even after driving a supercar through a bunch of skyscrapers in Furious 7, you can be sure that the Fast 8 cars will turn up the noise as well.

So far we've had a bunch of photos and videos of the cars we can expect to see in the film, though obviously there will be much more when the movie is released. Take a look at the vehicles we've had a look at so far:

Part of Fast 8 will be set in Iceland, and due to the cold conditions it looks like the family will need some suped-up ice cars! Thanks to pictures posted on the Fast & Furious Facebook page we know that these are the cars the characters will be driving:

  • Dom: Dodge Ice Charger
  • Letty: Rally fighter
  • Tej: Ripsaw
  • Roman: Orange Lamborghini
  • Hobbs: Ice Ram

We also got a closer look at Dom's charger when it appeared at the Dub Show a few months back.

Kristofer Hivju also shared a picture of his characters car on Instagram, which indicates it might also be part of the 'ice cars' lineup in Iceland:

But that's not all! A behind-the-scenes video tour of the "Auto Valhalla" where many of the Fast 8 cars are housed revealed that we can also look forward to seeing our characters in the following:

  • Tej: Mercedes AMG GT S
  • Roman: Bentley Continental GT

The video also showed a Fast Attack Vehicle, a totally blacked-out helicopter, some pimp looking cars that were supposedly seized by "drug dealers and other bad guys," and a $1 million boat, capable of speeds of more than 170 mph. By the way, apparently the cars used in Fast 8 are worth a whopping $17 million altogether. Ca-ching!

Fast 8 spoilers

The cast of Furious 7
The cast of Furious 7

It's hard to make a film these days without at least a few spoilers escaping, and that's exactly what seems to have happened with Fast 8.

The first Fast 8 spoiler came when The Rock uploaded a video which didn't greatly spoil the plot, but certainly gave us some information on what we could expect from his character.

The Instagram post, which was captioned "The Iceman cometh. And don't fucketh around," showed footage of Johnson's character, Hobbs, wearing an orange jumpsuit in hand and leg cuffs. Johnson has since released other clips showing Hobbs charging through the prison. These clips have set of speculation that Hobbs may turn up in the high-security facility where Deckard Shaw was imprisoned at the end of Furious 7. There's also rumors that Hobbs may be in the prison to set Shaw free, potentially in order to gain his help overcoming the villain in Fast 8, Cipher.

There were also possible spoilers released when images of Vin Diesel shooting in Atlanta, Georgia surfaced.

The images appeared to capture Vin's character, Dom, shooting Jason Statham's character, Deckard Shaw, in order to grab a silver briefcase, which was then taken by Michelle Rodriguez's character, Letty.

Fast 8 theories

The Fast & Furious franchise is not one which has quite as many fan theorists as other franchises, however that doesn't mean there there's none out there! Here's a Fast 8 theory that may pique your interest:

Fast 8 soundtrack

The official Soundtrack for Fast 8 is currently unavailable. However given the number of high profile artists whose work has been used on the soundtracks for previous installments, there's no doubt it will be full of smash hits. Fans will also be eagerly anticipating the Fast 8 theme song, after Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth put together the emotion tune 'See You Again' for Furious 7.

Fast and Furious movies

Fast 8 is the latest in a long line of films to detail the goings on of Dom Toretto's crew. However Fast 8 is not the end of the franchise, in fact it's just the beginning of a trilogy which will ultimately bring the series to an end. Confused? Well, that's understandable. Basically, altogether 10 films have been planning for the franchise, so after Fast 8 we still have two more to look forward to! Here's the complete list of Fast & Furious movies in order so far:

  • The Fast and the Furious (2001)
  • 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
  • The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
  • Los Bandoleros (2009)
  • Fast & Furious (2009)
  • Fast Five (2011)
  • Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
  • Furious 7 (2015)

But aside from how many films are in the franchise, the Fast And Furious franchise is also interest due to the fact that it doesn't necessarily run in chronological order. For example, even though The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was the third film released, chronologically it's the seventh film, behind only Furious 7. Additionally, a little-know short film titled Los Bandoleros (which was produced and directed by Vin Diesel), actually sits in third place chronologically.
