Fear The Walking Dead may have struggled to find its footing during the first season, but the hit AMC series managed to up its game during Season 2 and left us with a cliffhanger so big that we've been counting down the days until the show's return. Thankfully, the wait is over and #FearTheWalkingDead has returned to our screens with an epic two-hour season premiere.
The premiere episode found Madison, Alicia and Travis prisoners of Troy — the new villain of the show. The two-hour installment was everything we could have hoped for, filled with jaw-dropping, nerve-wracking moments that had us all sitting on the edge of our seats, and it showed us a death that we will never recover from. As Fear enters a brand new chapter, let's take a look back at the biggest and best moments from the two hour season premiere. Beware of spoilers.
1. Madison Threatens To Remove Troy's Eye
When Madison and Alicia found themselves prisoner at the army base, they searched the room for some sort of weapon. Alicia presented a knife to Madison and they hatched a plan to take on their captor, the villainous Troy. When Troy entered the room, Madison jumped him from behind, but the young man was too powerful and managed to throw her from his back, sending the knife flying across the room.
As they wrestled on the table, Madison picked up a nearby spoon and stabbed Troy in the eye, threatening to remove the eyeball if he didn't take her to Travis. Madison then moved through the courtyard as all the soldiers watched in shock. Forget jaw-dropping, this moment almost had our eyeballs on the floor!
2. Nick And Madison Reunite
The Clarks are without a doubt one of the greatest on-screen families, and the relationship between Nick and his mother Madison has always been one of the greater elements of the show. Unfortunately, the show lost this dynamic when the pair were separated during the second season. However, after Madison searched high and low for her son towards the end of Season 2, they were finally reunited in the Season 3 premiere.
As Madison spotted her son, the two immediately embraced. Alicia soon followed and they engaged in a heartwarming group hug. It was lovely. And considering the world has become so bleak, we definitely appreciated a little levity — especially after what happened next.
3. The Clark Family Take Out A Herd Of Walkers
After being granted their freedom, the Clark family intended to move on from the army base to look for a new sanctuary. However, their hopes were shortlived as a herd of walkers broke into the army base and surrounded Madison.
The leader wasted no time in bashing the undead's brains in and, when Nick saw that his mother was in trouble, he hurried to her side and the two of them single-handedly took out the herd. It was another heart-stopping moment.
4. The Death Of Travis
Travis has been with the show since the very beginning, and after losing his son Chris last year, we thought that he'd be around for a couple more seasons. However, it was not to be and Travis found himself fighting for his life in the Season 3 premiere. After being shot in the neck during the helicopter ride to the army base, Travis feared that he would turn into a zombie — so, after sharing a moment with his stepdaughter Alicia, he opened the helicopter door and fell to his death. I don't think anyone saw that coming and there wasn't a dry eye left in our house, that's for sure. We'll miss you, Travis.
5. Troy Threatens Luciana's Life
By the time that Alicia had carried her to the new sanctuary, Luciana was barely conscious. Because he's hellbent on being a tyrant, Troy refused to have Luciana enter the base in case she turned while inside. As a result, he pulled out his gun and threatened to shoot her. However, Nick refused to let this happen and offered to pull the trigger instead.
As we expected, Nick had no intention of killing his girlfriend and pointed the gun at Troy instead. Madison managed to talk Nick down and, as a result, Troy's father — the leader of this new settlement — agreed to let Luciana receive medical attention.
By the end of the episode, fans of Fear The Walking Dead had endured more than their hearts could probably take. However, one thing is for certain: the hit series returned stronger than ever, and if the two-hour season premiere is anything to go by, we're in for one hell of a ride. Fear The Walking Dead may prove to be the most exciting show of the summer.
