"Mommy-porn" bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey might be getting a movie adaptation in 2015, but that hasn't stopped a porn company producing their own X-rated version of the story, imaginatively titled Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX Adaptation. Great work on the title guys, it must have taken your best and brightest weeks to come up with that gem.

It seems that Universal Studios is less than happy with the name of their property being used for a porno, and according to THR, is claiming copyright and trademark infringement and looking to get an injunction that prevents the release of the movie.

Two can play this kinky legal game though and the studio behind the XXX adaptation, Smash Pictures, has now launched a counterclaim against the studio, suggesting that the copyright Universal holds is invalid, adding:

...as much as 89% of the content of the allegedly copyrighted materials grew out of a multi-part series of fan fiction called Masters of the Universe based on Stephenie Myer's (sic) Twilight novels. On information and belief, this content was published online between 2009 and 2011 in various venues, including fanfiction.net and the person website of Ericka (sic) Leonard. On information and belief, much or all of this material was placed in the public domain.

It's a messy state of affairs, but if I was Universal I would be more pissed that Smash Pictures couldn't come up with a more creative title. If you think back to such classics (and I often do) like Pulp Friction and America Booty, Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX Adaptation is a really poor effort in comparison.

If you want to get the lowdown on the lawsuit head over to THR. For the rest of you, use the comment section below to come up with a better title for the X-rated adaptation. Personally I would go with Fifty Ways to Lay. It lets you know what it's about, but it keeps it classy.
