With only a month left before the premiere, it was surprising to see yet another trailer for Fate Of the Furious being released. Similar to every other trailer in the Fast And Furious franchise, this footage was action packed from start to finish. It also heavily emphasized the new plot twist, which now sees the titular hero, Dominic Toretto becoming a full-blown villain. Check out the trailer below:
Apart from the new twist made apparent in the trailer, it didn't add much in terms of new content. It was still a good preview of what's to come in the actual movie. Along with that, the action sequences were something to marvel at.
However, the action sequences featured in the trailer were quite brief. So, for the majority of us who didn't bother to slow down every split-second shot in the trailer, here's a shot-for-shot breakdown of all the best moments from the newest trailer for #FateOfTheFurious.
The Rock Deflects A Torpedo While Driving A Car
Just when you thought Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson couldn't get any cooler, he decides to step out of a moving vehicle on a slick road of ice to deflect an oncoming torpedo. Of course, he's only capable of performing such a feat because he's The Rock, but it's still cool nonetheless. We can't wait to see what else Hobbs does in Fate Of The Furious.
Hobbs Catches An Explosive In Mid-Air
Not only does Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) get to throw a torpedo at some unsuspecting villains, he's glimpsed catching an explosive mid-air. When Dom and Cipher break into their headquarters, they send a device in that scatters explosives into the room. When the device launches the explosives, Hobbs catches the one directed at him.
It doesn't take long for the explosive to detonate but Hobbs catches it with enough time to spare that he throws at away to a safe distance.
It's going to be interesting to see how bent out of shape Hobbs gets after he sees it was Dom who launched the explosives at him. Dom and Hobbs have strengthened their friendship over the span of the last two Fast And Furious movies, so for Hobbs to see a loyal friend betray him will likely leave Hobbs reconsidering his alliance with Toretto.
Cipher Kills More Of Her Henchmen, This Time She Aims At Dominic Toretto
At one point in the trailer, we see Cipher's submarine targeting something in the distance. The aftermath of the missile attack reveals that Dom survives, but another missile is hot on his tail.
The trailer then gives a different perspective of the scene but when it pans back to Dom in his car, he's speeding off as a missile chases him. Reasonably speaking, he's going to have to maneuver somewhere far and somewhere fast — it is a missile after all.
Fortunately for Dom, the sequence concludes with Dom narrowly escaping the missile attack by Cipher. So much for their "alliance."
Evidence Of Cipher Manipulating Dom
In another segment of the trailer, Dom (Vin Diesel) is seen in a heated conversation with Cipher (Charlize Theron). Since it was known that Dom had joined Cipher's cause and turned on his family, fans have been trying to determine the reason for Dom's defection. Theories range from mind-control to a clone of Dom in his place, but the real answer may be much simpler.
The more plausible explanation for why Dom has created an alliance with Cipher is that she's manipulating Dom into working for her. There's a good chance Cipher has some leverage over Dom, so much so that he's willing to turn his back on his family. One rumor going around indicates that Dom may betray his family due to Cipher holding his sister, Mia, captive. If that's the case, Dom will likely turn his back on Cipher the moment he can assure Mia's safety.
Cipher Shows Off Her Destructive Capabilities
Cipher being a tech genius was revealed early on in her character description, but it wasn't until the trailer dropped that we truly got to see what Cipher is capable of. Somehow, Cipher is capable of hacking into the computer systems of cars everywhere to remotely pilot them. When she begins manipulating them, mayhem ensues.
From cars driving themselves out of high-rise parking garages to cars exploding when hitting the ground, Cipher demonstrates her destructive capabilities on an entire city, laying waste to it without any regard for human safety.
'Fate Of The Furious' Will Be Another Action-Packed Adventure
While those moments from Fate Of The Furious are likely to excite fans, there's still much more to see. We've only briefly glimpsed the growing conflict between Dominic Toretto and his old team so it'll be interesting to see how that develops. Apart from the internal conflict between Dom and his team, he also appears to be in the midst of a power struggle with Cipher. She seems to have some type of leverage over Dom, forcing him to work for her. Whatever the reason, we probably won't find out why until Fate Of The Furious premieres. Luckily, it's only a month away so we won't have to wait too much longer.
