Following a tough period full of controversies prior to and after its release, Iron Fist became Marvel's first big critical failure. With that chilly reception, a second season has been shrouded in uncertainty. Unlike other Marvel/Netflix series like Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Luke Cage, hasn't officially been renewed for a new season.

That has gotten a lot of fans asking: Will carry on with telling Danny Rand's solo stories? Or will the company move away from its first big critical failure and keep Danny limited to ? Well, it's time to stop wondering and speculating, because...

'Iron Fist' Season 2 Is Happening, Finn Jones Says

That's right, fellow diehard Iron Fist fans. The show's star attended Puerto Rico Comic-Con 2017. There, the actor was asked about whether a second season was happening. According to The SuperBroMovies Twitter account, Jones confirmed that was coming.

According to the actor, an official announcement will be made soon:

While that may sound surprising, a few months ago it was revealed the show was one of Netflix's greatest successes in terms of viewers, so it's understandable for the streaming service to want to give the property another shot.

The curious thing here is the delay. took its sweet time in giving Season 2 the green light; the company renewed other Marvel series much sooner. While I'm just speculating here, that could be due to the showrunners trying to craft a new direction for the hero based on the criticisms that Season 1 received. If that's the case, it's an exciting prospect, but it also begs the question...

What Should We Expect From Season 2?

At the end of Season 1, Danny's longtime friends, Joy Meachum and Davos, were teased as future antagonists; they joined forces to get revenge on him for seemingly ruining their lives. In the comics, both characters end up as enemies of our titular hero (Davos becomes his nemesis, Steel Serpent). Given their comic book backstories and the psychological motivations given to them in the show, they could offer a very compelling storyline.

The thing is, as I mentioned above, the series' creative minds could be looking for a new approach to the character, so I'm curious to see whether that storyline actually gets developed or if the series will go in a different direction. Taking into account how heavily the characters were teased, them getting scrapped in favor of another storyline is unlikely, but still a possibility we should be mindful of.

Moving on to something that seems more like a sure thing, Season 2 might be the first time we get to see Finn Jones in his Iron Fist costume. Last week, the actor stated that he hoped his classic super suit would make its much-awaited appearance in Season 2:

“I hope so. I really hope so. I think moving forward to Season 2, we’ll see something like that.”

Unfortunately, aside from those two things, there's very little we have in terms of clues for a new storyline for Danny Rand. But keep in mind that, prior to his next solo adventure, Danny Rand will be kicking bad guys' butts in The Defenders, so it's best to wait until that show gets released to have a better sense of where the character will be taken.

Overall, there's a lot to be excited about for Iron Fist Season 2. I was a big fan of the first season, so I can't wait to see what Marvel and Netflix have in store for us.

The Defenders will be released on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
