USA Today brings us a privileged peek at 's upcoming new film, American Hustle. The Silver Linings Playbook director is in the editing process of this fictionalized rendition of the infamous FBI Abscam sting involving a national corruption scandal of congressmen and other public officials.

Russell reunites a big chunk of his old teams from The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, including , who plays Bronx-raised con man and forced FBI informant Irving Rosenfeld; , starring as tenacious FBI agent Richie DiMaso, and , as Irving's mistress and partner-in-crime. Also returning to partner up with Russell is , playing Irving's unpredictable and independent-minded wife Rosalyn. , working for the first time in a Russell film, slips into the role of Camden, NJ's unstable mayor. Cameo-lovers will be thrilled to catch a glimpse of in early 80's garb; and for those who enjoy stand-up comedy, is sure to be a welcome sight. The Simpsons theme-song composer, , will provide the soundtrack for the film.

The real Abscam (codename for 'Abdul scam', named after the fictitious front company used by the Feds) sting operation, coordinated by the FBI's Long Island field office, ended with the conviction of a US Senator, five US Representatives, a New Jersey State Senator and a few lesser public officials in 1981, charged with conspiracy and bribery. David O. Russell quips:

That era was very much like our era now. The economy was not in a good place and people had to struggle to figure out how to reinvent themselves.
