The cameras are rolling on Twentieth Century Fox's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and some atmospheric on-set photos have come our way for you to check out. Filming is taking place in New Orleans, which has been styled to look like a post-apocalyptic San Fransisco 15 years after humanity has almost been completely wiped out. We've also got out first look at the human resistance, going by the name "Human Nation."

Here's the synopsis for the simian sequel:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth¹s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will land in theaters May 23, 2014.
