This article contains spoilers for The Flash Season 3.
Throughout the entirety of #TheFlash's third season, Barry Allen has gone above and beyond in his attempts to try and protect the woman he loves. After witnessing Iris's death in the future, Barry was willing to do whatever it took to protect her from the "God of Speed" known as Savitar.
However, this week's episode of The Flash — "Infantino Street" — broke all of our hearts as the unstoppable Savitar realized his own prophecy and killed Iris. The scenario came to pass just as it was predicted. And as Savitar was always one step ahead of Team Flash, there was just nothing the team could do to save Iris.
However, fans were quick to notice that there actually was a way to save Iris. The ironic thing was that while Team Flash were busy figuring out how to save Iris, they never realized that the answer was staring them right in the face throughout the entire episode.
A.R.G.U.S. Was The Key
This episode saw Barry team up with Captain Cold to break into A.R.G.U.S. and steal an alien power source. Barry needed Snart's help because the facility was enforced with metahuman-dampening technology, making it impenetrable to people with super powers — thus, Barry's super-speed wouldn't work.
While the Scarlet Speedster and Captain Cold were successful in obtaining the power source, Barry was unable to save Iris, as Savitar knew how to thwart his plan. Despite hiding Iris on Earth-2, Savitar was easily able to track her down and kill her.
However, Team Flash ended up making a major blunder as they had already unintentionally figured out a way to keep Iris safe. And the answer was simple: instead of breaking into A.R.G.U.S. to steal the Dominators' technology, all they had to do was lock Iris in there instead. Since Savitar is a speedster — not to mention, Future Flash — the facility would have stripped him of his powers. And thus, he wouldn't have been able to get to Iris.
This unusual turn of events left fans reeling, especially because the show practically gave us a way for Iris to survive this possible scenario without even realizing it. And thus, fans took to social media to question the characters and the logic of the episode. Let's take a look at some of the best reactions from fans.
Thus, in a rather unfortunate attempt to prove that saving Iris was impossible, The Flash inadvertently revealed that she could be saved after all. The only problem is that nobody in the show noticed it.
And this major plot hole has left many fans angry that their favorite character died when her death was seemingly preventable. If only Team Flash — and the creative team — had figured out what was staring them right in the face, maybe Iris would still be alive.
The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
