So we have two very big pieces of news to share with you in regards to the much anticipated Freddie Mercury Biopic. The first is announcement is the director, and the second is the actor to depict the hip-gyrating rock icon.

It was revealed today that the Queen estate confirmed that actor turned director is set to helm the movie. This movie is to be Fletcher’s third, following on from Sunshine on Leith which was released this year. It will be very interesting to see how Fletcher will depict Freddie Mercury.

Also, after much speculation, mostly fuelled by Brian May himself, Freddie Mercury has been cast. , actor in Skyfall and tumblr favourite, will indeed be playing the leather clad, flamboyant and mustached hero.

Personally it was a sad day for me when stepped down from his role as Freddie Mercury earlier this year. I did a sad because there has never been anyone so suited to the role of Mercury as Baron Cohen. In comparison I feel the soft-spoken and gentle demeanour of Whishaw’s would not have made him my first choice to play Mercury's larger than life personality.

However this is not to deny that Whishaw is a terrific actor and will definitely be able to step in Freddie’s shoes - or very tight leather pants (which I'm sure we all can't wait to see.)

The film will focus on Mercury's coming of age to his famed Live Aid performance in Wembley, which I believe to be one of the greatest performances in rock history.

So what do you think? Have the right decisions been made? Let us know right below in that little comment box.
