Horror fans may have been disappointed that the CW has supposedly axed their plans to bring a Friday the 13th TV show to the small screen, but there's one thing many forget: There was already a Friday the 13th TV show!

Friday the 13th fans of *ahem* a certain age, or with a taste for vintage programming may remember Friday the 13th: The Series, which ran between 1987 and 1990 for an impressive 72 episodes.

The credits were a Tales From The Crypt-style delight.

Still, what baffled a lot of fans is that the Friday the 13th show didn't feature Jason Voorhees — or ANY of the characters from the Friday the 13th movie franchise! In fact, the show was originally named The 13th Hour but was retitled in an attempt to convince Jason Voorhees fans to watch it!

Friday the 13th: The Series was a fun watch, centering around a storekeeper with a shop full of dangerous, cursed objects. It was campy, totally '80s and had a comforting monster-of-the-week format that pleased fans of Creepshow and horror-themed comic books.

For anyone curious, I'd recommend Friday the 13th: The Series — just don't expect it to be anything like the movies! You can chase it up on DVD via Amazon.

Our next helping of Jason Voorhees comes 13 October, 2017 when another Friday the 13th movie reboot will be attempted.

Have you ever seen Friday the 13th: The Series?
