For those of you who came in late, is launching his own television network. According to Deadline, one of the flagship offerings from El Rey, as the network will be called, will be a small screen version of Rodriguez's 1996 film From Dusk Till Dawn. You may remember that the film followed the notorious Gecko Brothers (played by and Dusk Till Dawn co-writer ) as they fled authorities only to end up seeking asylum in a seedy bar doubling as a nest for a horde of savage vampires.
Well now it appears the leads for From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series have been cast. (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will play Seth and Richie Gecko respectively. In addition (Django Unchained) has been cast as Sheriff Earl McGraw, a recurring Tarantino/Rodriguez universe character previously played by . Finally, a new character has been added to the mix, a Texas Ranger named Freddy pursuing the Gecko brothers. has been tapped to play Freddy.
The only actor I can really comment on here is Johnson, as I have next to no exposure to the other three. Considering the fate of the brothers in From Dusk Till Dawn, one can only assume this series will be a preface to the film. Therefore, it stands that Sheriff McGraw can't appear as if almost twenty years have passed since his last appearance in this story. I think Johnson will provide a seamless transition for the character.
I'm actually looking forward to this show, if only because I love the first half of From Dusk Till Dawn, before the vampires show up it's like a greasy, slimy road movie.
What do you guys think?
