UK-based Shepperton Studios is an up-and-coming studio that has been tapped to handle filming for a number of big-budget films over the next few years, but none bigger, reports Screendaily, than landing The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Filming for the sequel will begin in early 2014 in Pinewood-Shepperton, being the latest collaboration between Marvel and the Buckinghamshire studio. The U.S. powerhouse recently wrapped filming there for Thor: The Dark World and production will begin on Guardians of the Galaxy this summer. Other recent major projects to film at the studios include Maleficent, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and Muppets Most Wanted. Disney's live-action version of Cinderella is also due to start filming at the studios.
While the original The Avengers was shot almost entirely in the U.S. (where Loki made himself a young friend), Marvel's decision to continue to collaborate with Shepperton will be a boon for the UK film industry. The local crews, VFX houses, British Film Institute and UK government are no doubt ecstatic that filming will move to their shores in 2014.
While details of the plot are being kept under wraps (at least for now), we know that the amazing will be back to write and direct the movie, along with all of the original Avengers reprising their roles.
Set for a May 1, 2015 release, we can be assured that The Avengers 2 will be another commercial and critical success to continue the momentum of the Marvel Studios juggernaut.
