Ordinarily, Paramount's Paranormal Activity franchise is a surefire license to print money. However, there has been a slight twist in the usual box office narrative regarding the found footage horror series.
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones debuted this last weekend in the number two spot behind Disney's Frozen. Though The Marked Ones raked in a respectable $18.2 million, it still fell short of the animated winter fantasy in its seventh week in theaters. Frozen has pulled down a staggering $600 million so far, which puts it just behind The Lion King as Disney's most profitable animated film.
I'm actually really glad to hear this. I know it's entirely subjective and not everyone will agree, but Frozen is all around a far better film than the fourth Paranormal Activity and I'm happy to see originality and exquisite execution rewarded over rehashed mediocrity.
What do you guys think?
