Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... a huge spoiler? Justice League's best kept secret has been, without a doubt, Superman. Aside from a few promotional posters and a glimpse of a red cape in the latest Comic-Con trailer, Warner Bros. has been quite secretive about the Big Blue Boy Scout's role in the film.
Naturally, that frustrating mystery has kept us fans on the edge of our seats, wondering about his relevance in the story for a few months now: Will he be an important part of the plot, or will he just come into play once things go down with #Steppenwolf and his massive Apokoliptian army? Well, it looks like we finally have an answer:
A Funko Figure May Have Just Revealed Superman's Role
SuperheroStuff.com recently put out a listing for the Justice League Superman Funko POP! figure, which was unveiled a few months ago. The site offered a surprisingly detailed description for the toy, one that seemingly spoils the fact that we're probably not seeing Superman until the third act of #JusticeLeague:
"The Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Flash figures are barely holding their own against invading Parademons and an axe-wielding Steppenwolf. If only Superman -- in Funko figure form -- was here...
LOOK! UP IN THE SKY! Is that...is that Superman?? IT IS! It's the Superman Justice League Movie Funko Pop Vinyl Figure and it resurrected itself moments before Steppenwolf skewered Wonder Woman with a hefty chunk of Venezuela!"
Wait, what?! So essentially #Superman swoops in at the last minute to save the day? Now, before getting excited or disappointed by these details, we have to keep in mind that, as with anything that's not officially from the studio, we should take this description with a grain of salt. Especially because that isn't an official description from Funko itself, but simply marketing copy from SuperheroStuff.com. Still, it's important to ask:
Is There A Grain Of Truth In This?
Surprisingly, there might be some legitimacy to the site's description. A few months ago #ZackSnyder explained that Superman's absence would be just as important to the story as his presence on the team once he came back from his long nap:
“Superman does play a big part in this movie. His presence, and lack of presence, are big story points…”
Many fans saw those comments as a hint that #ClarkKent wouldn't play a prominent role in the story until later in the movie. That was speculation at the time, but the Funko's description certainly backs up the theory.
There's another way to look at the situation, though, because we need to take into account the extensive reshoots that have been going on for the past few months. Henry Cavill has been heavily involved in them, which could mean that his role is being revamped a bit to make him a larger part of the story.
Right now, there's very little information at our disposal to make a concrete guess. But seeing how it's not an official description, odds are it's probably not true, which would be great. We've been waiting for a Justice League movie for years, so it would be really disappointing to only see Supes interacting with the rest of the League in the last minutes of the movie. That would be especially sad seeing how there's no Justice League 2 in the horizon.
Do you think the Funko spoiled the ending of Justice League? Let me know in the comments!
