FX is taking us to the Middle East after the cable network gave a series order to Tyrant. The show is the brainchild of Homeland creators and and charts an American family's experiences when they are drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation.
Here's the synopsis:
Bassam “Barry” Al Fayeed (), the younger son of the dictator of a war-torn nation, ends a self-imposed 20-year exile to return to his homeland, accompanied by his American wife and children, for his nephew’s wedding. Barry’s reluctant homecoming leads to a dramatic clash of cultures as he is thrown back into the familial and national politics of his youth.
was originally slated to direct but pulled out and was replaced by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows director . 20th TV chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman had to say about Tyrant certainly seem excited by the show.
This is one of the most ambitious series we've ever set out to make and we couldn't be more grateful to John and everyone at FX who believed in its potential since the very first pitch.
Along with 's The Strain, Tyrant is going to be one of the television highlights of 2014.
