After six years of building up to this moment, Daenerys has finally touched down on Westeros, ready to begin the war that's going to reinstate the Targaryen dynasty and lay waste to the Lannisters and anyone else that dares to stand in her way. It should come as no great surprise that she chose Dragonstone as her first landing point: It's the ancestral seat of House Targaryen, and it just so happens to be vacant after the Usurper's brother got himself stabbed by Brienne of Tarth at the end of Season 5. While there was no one there to stop Dany from tearing down Stannis's ratty old banners, is the castle truly and totally empty? Hmmmm, prooooobably not.
After Jon Snow banished the princess-burning, fire-wight-making sorceress Melisandre, fans wondered where this magical maven would go. There seemed no real reason for her to return to her home city of Asshai, nor would she likely be welcomed among the smallfolk of Westeros. We got the answer to that question in one of the trailers before the start of Season 7:
That's Melisandre looking out over the cliffs of Dragonstone. While we theorized that she might be watching Jon Snow et al. unpack for a visit to the Dragon Queen, Redditor jlg9917 suggests that Melisandre is actually looking out over Dany's party as they arrive. It would make sense that Melisandre would head straight for the abandoned castle where she had lived with Stannis. Perhaps her clairvoyant powers clued her in to Khaleesi's imminent arrival. Either way, it looks like we'll get to watch these two fearsome females come face to face very, very soon.
