Earlier in 2016, it was announced that one of the most popular franchises in Hollywood would be getting another installment — yes folks, Indiana Jones 5 is officially in the works and will once again be directed by industry legend Steven Spielberg with acting icon Harrison Ford at the helm, 30 years after his classic performance in Raiders of the Lost Ark:

With more and more information regarding the project tumbling out into the limelight, we also now know that screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds) is involved.

But, what about those rumors that George Lucas would return to serve as executive producer? Sadly, it's been confirmed that he won't be coming back to breath life into Indiana Jones once more, or indeed, participating at all. In an interview with Collider, Koepp said:

“He’s not, to my knowledge. I’ve had no contact with him.”

So, as it stands, for the first time in the history of the franchise, George Lucas will not be involved in the production of Indiana Jones 5 — a jaw-dropping revelation that has certainly surprised fans all over the world. Oh, and perhaps triggered a smile or two among those that gave the 2008 instalment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a very lukewarm review.

Yet, while we mull Lucas's absence from Indy 5 over, what else did we learn from the snippets of information that emerged from the recent interview regarding production? Dive right into the key points discussed below:

1. Production Is Underway

Koepp revealed that currently there's a lot of momentum behind the movie and that things are getting very exciting indeed. When asked whether it now feels as if the film is finally, really happening, he said:

“Yes, it does. It feels like it has a lot of momentum behind it. We have ‘top men’ working on it as we speak (laughs). No, it’s going really well. I really like our idea; I think it’s clean and simple and makes a lot of sense, and I feel like the writing is going really well.”

2. Filming Is Set To Begin In 2017

As it stands, it appears that it's down to Steven Spielberg as to when the official filming for Indiana Jones 5 begins. Although Koepp is hopeful that 2017 will see all the wheels being set in motion, he did admit it might even be earlier:

“That’s a tough one, I hope so. It’s certainly OK for me and I’ll be ready, but my schedule isn’t the tough one. So I think October—I hope, I hope so. We’ll see. That’s a hard one to answer.”

3. Release Is Scheduled For July 19, 2019

Although this is exciting news indeed, it does mean that we have a very long time to wait before we see Harrison Ford doing his thing in his most iconic role.

So, while we twiddle our thumbs in anticipation, we might as well re-watch some of the moments that made Indiana Jones one of the most relatable action heroes in Hollywood:
