It's been 21 years since #GeorgeRRMartin published A Game of Thrones, the first installment of his A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the inspiration behind HBO's epic show. The fifth and latest addition, A Dance with Dragons, hit shelves in 2014. Martin confirmed that there are two more books slated to finish out the series: The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. Yet as the wait drags on and on, fans are starting to feel like The Winds of Winter might never come.
From time to time, however, Martin reassures his hordes of followers that yes, he is still working away on The Winds of Winter and we will be able to read it one day. Now, in response to the plea of one desperate fan on his blog, Martin has issued yet another vaguely reassuring statement that he "thinks" The Winds of Winter will be out in 2017:
- Wait, Why Did 'Game Of Thrones' And 'Westworld' Flop At The Golden Globes?
- Aquaman Jason Momoa Swaps Fish For Fur In 'Frontier,' Netflix's Violent Look At The Fur Trade
- Is The 'Game Of Thrones' Movie Ever Going To Happen?
Not done yet, but I’ve made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year.)
As much as we all want to hear him say "It's all wrapped up and on its way to the printer right this second!" Martin has never been one for giving fans the easy, happy endings they might hope for.
Oh well. At least he's making progress! Keep at it, George! We're waiting...
