Here's some exciting news brought to you by the Los Angeles Times: Hero Complex: ’s 'dragon Smaug is getting his own coin' in New Zealand. The limited edition collection is aligned with the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which is less than two months away. And so the countdown begins.
The LA Times also stated that:
The New Zealand Post- the country’s government-owned mail service- will mint coins featuring: Bilbo Baggins, Thranduil, Azog and the dwarfs as well as more Hobbit stamps in time for ’s new film.
We had orders from Kazakhstan, Iceland, Libya, Bolivia and the Canary Islands

They also reported that the collectible ephemera follows on from last year’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 'featuring characters from Middle-earth and will pay tribute to several characters who weren’t in the first film'. These will include: elf warrior Tauriel (), Bard the Bowman () and Legolas (), Bilbo Baggins (), Gandalf the Grey () and Thorin Oakenshield ().
