It's hard to separate Lena Dunham's Girls from its sex scenes, after all, the seminal TV show is based around four 20-something girls — and their parents, and their gay bffs, and their ex-boyfriends — finding their paths in life. And surprise surprise, this involves quite a bit of sex. As they grow older (and by proxy more unsure of the route they've taken), the sex becomes way more experimental, resulting in a number of scenes that've pushed as many boundaries as they have eyebrows.

Though not all of the show's sex scenes were stamped with the A-OK from HBO. Last week Dunham and the show's executive producer Judd Apatow revealed that there was one particular shot that had a fountain of jizz "arcing through," which was promptly cut by the board for being too gratuitous.

While that makes sense when considering licensing issues, it's a little confusing considering some of the scenes that did make it through — like the one in which, to quote Allison Williams (a.k.a. Marnie), “Brian Williams’ daughter gets her salad tossed.” Yup, we're talking about the time Marnie had her butt munched by her ex-husband Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) over the kitchen sink.

Talking to The Howard Stern Show, Dunham dished background dirt on the ass-eating scene and revealed that, in fact, that wasn't how it had been intended in the script:

“Here’s what I’ll say: Allison was amazing about it, but what I wrote is that she was getting eaten out from behind… and then, once we were on set, Ebon made a strong actorly choice to eat her butt instead and motorboat it. We just couldn’t believe it was real.”

Listen to the interview here:

We couldn't believe it was real either, to be honest. And I'm not sure that I particularly want to see someone having their ass motorboated on TV ever again, but at least made me aware of that, I guess. Williams described the scene's logistics to Entertainment Weekly last year:

"I had a couple of days talking to wardrobe and makeup to get ready to rig the thing that I wore for the ass motorboating. It was an engineering achievement! I would manufacture it if more than one person a year needed it. [Laughs] It was so elaborate — it involved Spanx that we cut away and glued down and involved menstrual pads and two of those weird thongs. I've had to do scenes like this twice now."

Spanx, two thongs and menstrual pads. Not looking so sexy now, eh?

Girls Season 6 airs on HBO Feb 12 and 10/9c. Check out the trailer below:
