In news that is surely set to have you singing a joyous tune, it has been announced that Darren Criss is joining The Flash/Supergirl musical crossover as the villainous Music Meister. Criss will be reuniting with his former #Glee castmates Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist in the upcoming two-part episode.
Executive producer of both shows Andrew Kreisberg confirmed the news in an exclusive interview with TVLine:
With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss?...We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.
Criss gleefully took to twitter to comment on the announcement, highlighting his excitement at the possibility of getting to work alongside Gustin and Benoist once again.
The arrival of both Darren Criss and Music Meister have certainly upped the ante for upcoming musical #TV crossover between our favorite #superheroes. But let's take a look at what this major announcement means.
A 'Glee'-Union Of Epic Proportions
The most exciting thing about Criss' joining of the musical is that it will reunite him with former Glee co-stars Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist. A mainstay on the hit musical series since its second season, Criss portrayed Warbler Blaine Anderson. After leaving the Warblers for the New Directions to be with his boyfriend Kurt, he was pursued by villainous Warbler Sebastian Smythe — Gustin. Moreover, as part of the New Directions, Blaine eventually became good friends with fellow member Marley Rose — Benoist.
Ever since Benoist was cast as #Supergirl, fans have called for a musical crossover with The Flash, due to Gustin's equally as Gleeful background. The addition of Darren Criss will surely make this musical crossover an even greater extravaganza.
Not only will this be a chance for us to all witness the Glee buddies back together again, it will also allow us to watch three amazing performers do what they do best. As Blaine, Criss delivered some incredible performances throughout his five seasons of Glee — most notably "Teenage Dream", "Hey Soul Sister", "Raise Your Glass", "Cough Syrup" and "It's Time".

Glee was undoubtedly a musical phenomenon, and it's an incredibly smart idea for everyone at The CW to turn to its ultra-talented cast in order to make the musical episode the best it could possibly be. As a major fan of the show, I can't wait to see Criss singing alongside Gustin and Benoist one more time.

Music Meister Is Coming
All musical episodes need a reason to be a musical episode. Let's face it — unless it's actually Glee, you can't justify your character spontaneously bursting into song without a backstory. Buffy The Vampire Slayer pulled it off through the use of magic, while Grey's Anatomy featured a life or death situation. Ever since the fans came up with the idea of a Supergirl/The Flash musical, they justified the existence of a such an episode through the use of one character — Music Meister.
Music Meister was featured in #DC animated series Batman: The Brave & The Bold, where he was voiced by Neil Patrick Harris. The villain was able to control others through song. Thus, it's understandable why fans of both CW series' though Music Meister was a viable option.
It seems that the CW agrees, as Darren Criss' casting confirms that the Music Meister will indeed be featured in the Arrow-verse — an incredible outcome for a character that didn't originate in the comics.
Darren Criss' casting in the upcoming musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl is a monumental event. It will not only see the introduction of Music Meister into the #Arrowverse, but it will also reunite Criss with his former Glee castmates Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin who portray the titular characters of each respective show.
A musical theater veteran, Criss is not only an exceptional singer — he's also a really powerful actor. And I have no doubt that he will add a great deal to the musical crossover. Get ready everyone, the SuperGleeroes are back — and this time, they'll be singing!
