Warning: This article contains spoilers from Gotham Season 3.

The third season of Gotham has showcased the origin story of every villain imaginable from The Mad Hatter to Poison Ivy, not to mention The Executioner, but it has definitely saved the best for last. Cameron Monaghan's criminal clown Jerome Valeska made his comeback in the series' latest two episodes and has amassed a large quantity of followers to his name.

After years of speculation about whether or not the psychotic character character would transform into The Joker it appears that we finally have our answer — this brand new trailer for next Monday's winter finale of Gotham has finally confirmed that Jerome is The Joker. Check it out below.

Although he has only just been reborn, Jerome is wasting no time in causing chaos for the citizens of Gotham City. Next week's episode will mark the conclusion of Jerome's terrifying reign of terror and it looks like we're in for one hell of a show. With Gordon and the GCPD busy looking for the maniac, a new hero will emerge from the shadows.

When Jerome Valeska first appeared on Gotham back in Season 1, many fans noted similarities between Jerome and comic book character The Joker — many of us assumed that Jerome was destined to become the Clown Prince of Crime later down the line. However, when Jerome was killed off back in Season 2, that put an end to that theory.

The rumor mill was sent into overdrive when Jerome returned to the show with a brand new look — one that clearly drew inspiration from The New 52 comic series' version of The Joker. However ,we have never had any sort of confirmation from the series' execs to back up our theories. That's no longer this case as this new trailer is the first time that Gotham has ever referred to Jerome as the famous comic book character, putting an end to our speculation and pretty much confirming our theory.

Jerome wreaks terror on the city because he believes there is nobody strong enough to stop him. Even Gordon has never been able to stop him, failing to take him down in Season 2. As we can see in this trailer, Jerome tells Bruce that Gotham has no heroes, but as the red headed devil attempts to take Bruce's life once more, it looks like Bruce will have a little fight in him.

Judging from the trailer, it's Bruce that will save the city from Jerome and thus he will become a hero. As we are all well aware, Bruce is destined to become Batman and it appears that this destiny will be initiated in next week's winter finale. Jerome has spoken in the past about being reborn, but it looks like Bruce is the one who will undergo the biggest rebirth of all — Batman may not be physically here yet, but the spirit of the Bat is born next week.

As we know, Jerome's arc comes to a close on next week's winter finale. With that in mind, I hope Jerome doesn't get killed off the show for a second time. There was a bit of an outcry last time Monaghan's crazy character was murdered — viewers had fallen in love with the character and Monaghan's portrayal of the character was every bit as good as Jack Nicholson's or Heath Ledger's Jokers.

When Monaghan's return was first confirmed by Gotham's executive producer John Stephens, we were all a little relieved. However, even I must admit it's a little difficult to see how Jerome will make it out of next week's episode alive. In the promo, Jerome does look in pretty bad shape when Bruce lays into him but surely the young Batman can't kill someone? Killing Jerome would go against everything Batman believes in so maybe there is still hope of Jerome surviving this brutal beating.

Cameron Monaghan has really shone in this arc, making Jerome even more psychotic than we've seen him in the past. With only one episode left, will Bruce Wayne be able to embrace his inner Batman and put a stop to Gotham's Joker once and for all? Or will it be Jerome that succeeds and has the last laugh? Either way, the showdown will be one of epic proportions as two comic book legends go one on one for the first time ever. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Gotham's winter finale "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies" airs Monday January 30 at 8/7c on FOX. Who do you think will come out of next week's episode triumphant? Tell me in the comment section below.
