It's hard to believe that it's been over three years since Grant Gustin made his debut as Barry Allen on #Arrow and took up the mantle of DC's scarlet speedster. In that space of time, he has single-handedly led his own #TV series and raced his way into all of our hearts on The Flash. Gustin has inspired millions of people with his performance as the relatable superhero on TV, but he has done so much more than that in real life.
With Gustin literally showing no signs of slowing down, let's take a look at why he has become a superhero we can all be proud of — both in fiction and real life.
An Endearing Performer
This isn't the first time I've said this — and it probably won't be the last — but Grant Gustin's performance on The Flash has introduced us to a brand new kind of superhero. Before The Flash, when the thought of #superheroes crossed our minds, many of us would have automatically thought about an unstoppable muscly titan with a toothy grin. However, thanks to Gustin, we now have a new image in our minds. His Barry Allen isn't necessarily what you would expect a superhero to look like or act like — Barry is sweet, nerdy, kind and downright adorkable. But it's these extra little layers that make him all the more relatable.
His performance on the show has earned Gustin worldwide acclaim, not because he portrays Barry as the perfect one-dimensional hero who always gets it right and saves the day — but because he portrays the character as the flawed individual that he is, constantly fighting an uphill battle to keep his loved ones safe. Some of the show's best moments are the emotional ones, and it's scenes like these in which Gustin thrives.
When he performs onscreen, you can almost see the passion radiating from him. And I'm not just saying that. Through facial expressions, hand gestures and a lot of heart, Gustin consistently gives it his all and brings the infectious Barry Allen to life. Moreover, his performance is nothing short of endearing. And because of this, he highlights that nice guys don't always finish last. In fact, if they've Barry's speed, they'll probably finish first.
His various range of emotions never fail to connect with us, and they truly highlight that he is an exceptional actor. While we all went into The Flash expecting something, Gustin gave us something else — something far superior. And this awe-inspiring result makes him the perfect Flash.

His Immense Talent
You would think that being exceptional in one area of expertise meant that you weren't as good elsewhere. However, this is certainly not the case here. Gustin's talent doesn't just extend to his exceptional acting. He also happens to be a great singer and dancer. Having an extensive musical theater background, he got the opportunity to showcase his talent to millions when he appeared on #Glee as villainous warbler Sebastian Smythe — a role I remember very well. Despite his evil intentions, Sebastian quickly became a fan favorite and this allowed Gustin to showcase his vocals on numerous occasions, singing classics such as "I Want You Back" and "Smooth Criminal."

The way in which he effortlessly meshes all of these talents together has me incredibly excited for The Flash's upcoming musical crossover with #Supergirl. It's been too long since Gustin has blessed us with his singing, and I can't wait to see him do so again.
But all of these are examples of how anything is possible if we commit to it. Gustin isn't just a little good at any of these talents, he excels at all them, and this is evidence of the hard work he puts in. He has honed his craft, and whether it's acting, singing or dancing, Gustin doesn't give us anything less than powerful, well-oiled and charismatic performances. His success in musical theater and all forms of art is inspiring, and proves that we can all excel if we truly put our minds to it.
He's A Humble Guy In Real Life Too
I could go on and on about how talented Grant Gustin is, but there is one thing he possesses that is even greater than his talents — humbleness. Being one of TV's biggest stars hasn't gone to his head, and it certainly hasn't changed him. I have been following him on Twitter since 2011, and he's still the same cool guy excited by how blessed he is. All you have to do is check out his tweets to realize just how thankful he is for being where he is.
Additionally, he may portray a fictional superhero on TV, but Gustin has proven on many occasions that he doesn't mind standing up for what's right in real life. In the past, he has been very vocal when it came to abusive messages and has stood up for his cast mates and thin people. Moreover, while many people don't get the #DCEU's decision to cast a separate Flash in their films, Gustin had no problem defending actor Ezra Miller from the haters, posting a long statement on Twitter. While I still don't really understand the necessity of another Flash, I am a fan of Miller and can't wait to see him in action, and I applaud Gustin for defending his fellow Flash.
Moreover, he isn't afraid to be himself on social media either — something he revealed when he fanboyed over the news that Harry Potter star Tom Felton was joining the cast of The Flash. And I think that is something we can all relate to.
Despite having the world at his feet, Gustin still seems like a humble, down-to-earth and all round nice guy. And there's nothing more inspirational than that.
So we have all gotten to know Grant Gustin really well over the past few years as he went from strength to strength on our TV screens. In that time, he not only reshaped the idea of what it means to be a superhero, he also showcased his immense talent and inspired us all by highlighting how it's possible to achieve our dreams — he is living proof of that.
Furthermore, it is off-screen that he proved to be the most inspirational by coming to his castmates' aid, standing against body shaming and just being an all round nice guy. He is the evidence that nice guys don't have to finish last, and in proving that, he has inspired so many people. Grant Gustin is quite simply, a class act — and I am proud to call him a superhero.
Happy 27th Birthday Grant! May it be a wonderful one!
