It's starting to look like Gravity and 12 Years a Slave will be the movies to beat come awards season as both won big at the film critics annual awards. 's 12 Years A Slave won Best Picture at the Boston Society of Film Critics awards, with McQueen also taking the award for Best Director. The movie also nabbed the Best Picture award at the New York Film Critics Online, with walking away with the Best Director award for Gravity.
The Los Angeles Film Critics Association also awarded Cuaron the award for Best Director but Gravity had to share the award for Best Picture with Spike Jonze's Her.
With the awards season looming in a blur of expensive champaign and over-priced jewelltry on the horizon, expect the competition to really start to heat up over the coming weeks.
