Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead Episode 7 "Sing Me A Song"
There was a whole lot to see in this weeks episode of The Walking Dead, when we journeyed back to Negan's Sanctuary and got another taste of life there after Carl made a rather dramatic entrance.
But aside from Carl mowing down some Saviors, and the dramatic reveal that the Saviors' base, the Sanctuary, was exactly as it looked in the comics, there was also something else that some very very eagle eyed viewers would have spotted: The zombie-fied head of Walking Dead director, producer and special effects makeup master, Greg Nicotero.
- Is 'The Walking Dead' Actually A Realistic Portrayal Of A Post-Apocalyptic World?
- 3 Moments Taken Directly From 'The Walking Dead' Comics In Tonight's Episode, 'Sing Me A Song'
- 5 Jaw Dropping Moments From 'The Walking Dead' Season 7, Episode 7, 'Sing Me A Song'
Nicotero is well known for including "tribute zombies" to famous cinema zombies in many of the episodes he directs, but every now and then, as was the case in Episode 7, the man himself gets involved to show the walker extras how its done.
This time it was only part of Nicotero that appeared in the episode, making a cameo as one of the severed heads on spikes guarding the outside of the Saviors' base.
In the past, Nicotero also appeared as a walker in the middle of the giant alleyway crush that surrounded Glenn and Nicholas in Season 6, Episode 3
He also showed up in Season 3, Episode 9 as a walker who managed to get inside the Woodbury township and eat resident Richard Foster:
And in Season 1 Nicotero made two appearances; one when he appeared as the businessman walker who was chewing on Daryl's freshly killed deer in Episode 3:
And then again in Episode 4 when he took a chunk out of Amy's arm at the survivors original campsite on the outskirts of Atlanta.
With such a long running tradition of appearing as a walker, there's no doubt we can expect to see Nicotero pop up again some time in the future — what kind of walker would you like to see him appear as?
The Walking Dead returns to AMC with Episode 8, "Hearts Still Beating" on December 11 at 9pm ET.
