The Guardians of the Galaxy may spend most of their time saving the world from power-hungry aliens and crazed humanoid planets, but they always have time to enjoy music. But have you ever wonder what would happen if they had the chance to create their own music music video? Well folks, we now have an answer to that question with an amazing new video for "Inferno" from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack. What could be better than seeing our beloved space a-holes cutting a mean rug next to David Hasselhoff?
Director James Gunn and composer Tyler Bates got together to develop "Inferno" as a uniquely original song for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack and they got none other than David Hasselhoff to perform it. For the music video, which will be a special feature in the home release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the former Baywatch star returned with the core #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy cast to boogie their worries away.
After our interest was piqued with a teaser Gunn shared through his Instagram, that music video is finally here and it's truly a thing of beauty. Have a look:
I'm not sure of what my eyes just experienced, but I do know it was pure awesomeness. What makes this video so great is how well it meshes with the cheeky, vivacious vibe we've come to expect from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise; the music video really feels like an extension of the films. It also feels like a '70s music video #PeterQuill could have mastered his dancing skills to — when he isn't dancing around the galaxy with his Walkman blasting, that is. Oh, and we can't forget Hasselhoff, who definitely has some impressive rapping skills.
To top it all off, we got to see most of the core Guardians cast (minus Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper) in full disco gear. Sean Gunn with a handlebar mustache? Check. Chris Pratt in a robot suit? You got it. Michael Rooker sporting super-tiny sunglasses and a powder blue disco suit? Check and check. Ever wonder what Zoe Saldana looks like as a '70s-era disco queen? Wonder no longer because she's a vision in gold in this video. It was so nice to watch if only because it reinforced the fact that this cast is, first and foremost, a family.
As we should have expected from Gunn, he went all out with guest stars. We saw the legend himself, Stan Lee, making one of his signature cameos. Also, for some strange and delightful reason, Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel Live! also made a hilarious appearance. It's totally random but totally amazing and I'm so intrigued by it all.
If you want to experience this masterpiece of a throwback to '70s music culture with the best resolution possible, make sure to get Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on 4K, Blu-ray or DVD on August 22, 2017.
