Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has easily become one of the most anticipated films of 2017. The hype continues to build following the release of the first trailer for the film - which is, to date, the most viewed trailer ever in Marvel Studios history. In preparation for the film's May 5, 2017 release, the Disney marketing machine has already started to debut toys that are sure to hit the shelves soon.

Check out the glory of Baby Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer:

In the trailer above, we see a our favorite characters from return, and this time Groot is adorable. However, there are a few characters that are notably absent, one of whom is the villain of this film, Ayesha. We haven't seen a single frame of footage of her yet, which has some fans wondering how true to the comics she will be. Well, thanks to a leaked photo from an upcoming toy line, we may have a basic idea of what she will look like.

Sneak Preview

Twitter user DIU posted an image of a bunch of cute little figures from the Pint Sized Heroes line. He noticed in the photo that there was a grumpy female character on the top right of the box, and that she doesn't fit in with the rest of the cast we already know. So, like a young Columbo, DIU decided to ask James Gunn - director of - who this mystery character could be.

James Gunn (who wasn't feeling overly verbose) replied with one simple name, Ayesha. This is the vert first image that even gives us a glimpse at the villainess of the piece. From what we see in of the toy, she has her patented orange-ish skin, and appears to be donning a purple and gold jump-suit. Sadly, the toy is a bit cartoon-ish and probably isn't the best representation of the character , but for a first glimpse, it could have been worse.

If you don't know who Ayesha is, don't feel bad - much like the Guardians themselves, she is a rather obscure character. She made her first appearance as Ayesha in Fantastic Four Vol. 3 #11 (1998), although she has had many incarnations before, including Paragon, Kismet, and Her. She was a genetically engineered being who possessed super-strength, flight, and the ability to tap, store, and manipulate cosmic energy. Her abilities match that of Captain Marvel, and she has a real mean streak. The long and short of it is that she is a force to be reckoned with.

Fans have been wondering how the character would be adapted to film ever since Elizabeth Debicki was cast to play the character in early 2016. There has been very little news about Ayesha at all, and her role in the story besides being the villain. The little information we do have comes from a panel for the film at San Diego Comic Con last year. During the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 panel, James Gunn said the following, regarding Ayesha's backstory in the film:

"[Ayesha is] golden High Priestess of a genetically-perfect people called the Sovereign"

He went on to speak of her demeanor, and of the threat she poses to our favorite rag-tag group of misfits:

"[She is] not a woman to be screwed with – she, and her entire world, are extraordinarily deadly."

The doesn't have the best track record when it comes to villains, and for the most part, are only used as a motivating force for our plucky protagonists. Honestly, when all is said and done, we won't care about the villain, due to the fact that we will all have fallen in love with Baby Groot! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes to the universe on May 7th, 2017.
