For some fans out there, the upcoming xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage marks not only the return of , the original star of the movies, but a return to form for the action genre as a whole. This is because the third xXx movie is a tongue-in-cheek ode to death-defying stunts, choreographed fight scenes and testosterone.

But Vin Diesel and machismo aren't the only familiar things to be returning to the movies. As confirmed by the movie's latest TV Spot, another familiar face will be joining Vin Diesel for another ride.

State Of The Reunion

Before we go any further, check out the latest TV Spot for xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage below.

That's right, will be reprising his role as Darius Stone from 2005's xXx: State Of The Union.

Ice Cube's character, the disgraced United States Navy officer Darius Stone, was the second person NSA Agent Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) picked to be the latest xXx agent. He did so after the Secretary Of Defense George Deckert (Wilem DaFoe) went rogue and plotted to overthrow the American government in the name of misguided patriotic fervor.

Fans have speculated that Ice Cube would play a part in the newest xXx movie in some capacity, though the filmmakers never confirmed or denied this. For those who theorized that Ice Cube would at least get a cameo, the latest TV Spot only confirms their guesses and came as no surprise.

Ice Cube took the reins of the xXx movies after Vin Diesel chose The Pacifier (2005) over the follow up to his action vehicle. State Of The Union was also directed by Lee Tamahori of Die Another Day (2002) fame, since the original xXx director Rob Cohen was busy directing Stealth (2005).

Despite the decent casting choices and the filmmakers' best efforts, State Of The Union failed to repeat the success of the first xXx. The movie was considered to be a critical and financial bomb, scoring a measly 16 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and earning only $71 million of its $81 million budget.

It was up to Paul Walker and Ice Cube to try their hand at headlining sequels that Diesel was supposed to star in, namely 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and xXx: State Of The Union, respectively. The results ranged from lukewarm to negative, and Diesel's return to both franchises is credited for playing a big part in reviving the action movie franchises.

The movies have since become a box-office juggernaut, and xXx is hoping to replicate that success. To this end, The Return Of Xander Cage will showcase Vin Diesel leading a diverse group of ass-kickers who are capable of performing high-altitude stunts and martial arts, shooting all kinds of firearms, and most importantly, driving the latest awesome vehicles.

The return of familiar characters like Agent Gibbons and Darius Stone mirrors how the new Fast And Furious entries brought in every single living character from the previous movies into one team while at the same time, introducing newcomers like Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) into the franchise. Notable newcomers in the xXx movies include: Tony Jaa, Ruby Rose and Donnie Yen.

For the few who unironically liked xXx: State Of The Union or Ice Cube's mere casting in the action packed sequel, his return in The Return Of Xander Cage is sure to be one hell of an explosive nostalgic trip. For newcomers, the latest film in the franchise will be one big serving of cinematic manliness and old-school action goodness - the way xXx was meant to be enjoyed.
