Halloween season is here once again. The time has come to celebrate all things spooky by watching horror movies until you can't sleep with the lights off, going trick-or-treating, and most importantly, seeing celebrities dress up.
We've gotten some pretty memorable costumes out of stars over the years, such as Neil Patrick Harris's Star Wars ensemble, Colton Haynes's Ursula, and Joe Jonas's spot-on Derek Zoolander. Now, Gwyneth Paltrow has shown all of her fellow celebrities how dressing up for #Halloween is done by recreating one of her most recognizable roles ... with a gruesome (and hilarious) twist.
Gwyneth Paltrow Won Halloween With Her Creepy Tracy Costume From 'Seven'
To give you some backstory, the actress starred alongside #BradPitt and #MorganFreeman in 1995's Seven. The movie centers around two detectives, William Somerset (Freeman) and David Mills (Pitt) –– who's expecting a child with his wife, Tracy (Paltrow) –– as they team up to stop John Doe (Kevin Spacey), a killer using the seven deadly sins as his murderous theme.
Mills and Somerset eventually catch Doe, but their ordeal doesn't end there. Doe takes the detectives to a deserted location with the promise that he will release his last two victims and confess to his crimes. Once there, the murderer has a package delivered to him: the head of Mills's wife.
Despite the scene's traumatizing nature, the film never actually showed audiences Tracy's severed head, so people were left to imagine her husband's horrific sight. Surprisingly, though, that's no longer a mystery, thanks to Paltrow:
The actress took to Instagram to share a picture of herself sporting a cardboard box, identical to the one seen in Seven, on her head. As if that wasn't hilarious enough, she paired up with a friend who dressed up as John Doe. Top notch work there, Ms. Paltrow.
Paltrow isn't the only celebrity to wow us with an awesome costume this year. #ColtonHaynes decided to bring cartoons to life when he dressed up as Marge Simpson in an unexpected Instagram video. Shortly after that, #WillPoulter disguised himself as Toy Story's Sid after years of fans pointing out their remarkable physical similarities.
Now, I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but even with Poulter and Haynes's awesome costumes, I have a feeling Paltrow won this year's Halloween with her severed-box disguise.
It's just so simple yet so awesome. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see what the actress has in store for next year's #Halloween.
