Han Solo is conning his way into theaters next year with his very own spinoff film. As has become commonplace for movies set in the #StarWars universe, other than its stellar cast, and premise, details about the film's plot have been scarce, to say the least.
Fortunately (and surprisingly) though, our wish to know more about the scoundrel's solo journey has finally come true and it comes with a very interesting revelation for the character.
#Disney CEO Bob Iger recently gave an interview to the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. During the interview, he took the time to reveal four intriguing details from the Han Solo movie:
- The film will explore Han's story from 18 to 24 years old.
- We'll be shown how Han met Chewbacca
- We'll find out how he got ahold of the Millenium Falcon
- It will be shown how Han got his name
Ben Fritz from Wall Street Journal provided updates of the speech via Twitter:
Taking into account the prequel nature of the project, it was easy to guess it would would tackle things like Han meeting Chewie, and getting his iconic ships. Therefore, without a doubt, the most surprising tidbit is...
Han Solo Is Not The Character's Real Name
Who would have guessed it? I mean, yeah, the guy's name is Han Solo, but it doesn't sound weird in a world where there's a powerful, prophecy-fulfilling warrior named Luke Skywalker.
Apparently, we've been living a lie all this time! But it could totally make sense.
Han grew up in an environment of thieves, smugglers and mercenaries; people who are constantly on the run from the law, shifting from one identity to the next in order to avoid imprisonment (or, you know, death).
This film will explore him at the age of 18, and from what we know about #WoodyHarrelson's role, his character, Beckett, will be guiding the young nerf-herder into the underworld and all its illegal activities and aforementioned implications. So his name change could very well be just another step in his evolution to become the cocky, care-free smuggler we met in #ANewHope.

Still, I'm just speculating here. But there's no denying that this detail just added a cool new element to the vast Star Wars mythology. I don't know about you, but I'll feel strange calling him Han from now on.
Considering #TheLastJedi will deal with the aftermath of Han's death, could we get a mention of his previous identity in the film? It's possible. After all, it would feel strange for his wife and closest friends to be unaware of such a crucial detail in his past.
The Han Solo spin-off flies into theaters on May 25, 2018.
Are you happy with Han Solo not being the character's original name?
