Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters gets released on DVD and Blu-ray next week and producer has been talking about the sequel, imaginatively titled Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2. In an interview with Movieweb, McKay expressed his excitement for the movie, but suggests that the second installment could go with a PG-13 rating instead of the gory R-rating of the first movie:

The funny thing is...I think Paramount regrets it [the R-rating]. I think they are worried that they left some money on the table with that one. There is some discussion about how we're gong to handle that with the second one.

It's easy to understand why Paramount would be thinking about giving Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 a PG-13 rating because it means a lot more people would be able to watch the movie, thus increasing the potential revenue stream. The original grossed a more-than-respectable $225,703,475 worldwide, but the studio would expect a higher gross if the rating was made softer.

That being said, most of the fun I had with the first movie was because of the gory violence and bloody humor so and it would be a shame to lose that if Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 was rated PG-13.

What do you guys think about this revelation? Would you watch Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 if it was rated PG-13?
