Many of us grew up with all the Harry Potter characters including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. However, there are a few characters that remain a mystery to us because of her limited screen time and some of the characters are a mystery. One of those mysteries is Moaning Myrtle, she haunts the girls bathroom in Hogwarts, and to some of us that's pretty much all she does. The truth is, Myrtle is far more interesting than that, she is a ghost with a past, and she most definitely deserves a purpose in the books and the movies. Not only did she help Harry discover where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets was, but she also told him to put the Golden Egg in the water. Here are 7 Interesting Facts About Moaning Myrtle.

1. The Older Actress As A Young Hogwarts Student

Shirley Henderson plays Moaning Myrtle and she is the first older actress to play a young Hogwarts student. When she first played Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets she was 37 years old, and when she returned to play Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire she was 40 years old.

2. Which Blood Was Myrtle?

Moaning Myrtle was a muggle-born witch and she started going to Hogwarts and was sorted into Ravenclaw, she was in Hogwarts from 1940-1943, which in 1943 that's when she died in the girls bathroom, she was only 14 years old.

3. Myrtle's Murder Lead To The Creation Of The First Horcrux

Myrtle death was no accident, she was targeted by Tom Riddle since she was a muggle-born witch. Tom Riddle ordered the Basilisk to kill Myrtle since he was the Heir of Slytherin. When Tom killed Myrtle he split his soul and created his first horcrux which was the Diary of Tom Marvolo Riddle that Lucius Malfoy had put in Ginny Weasley's cauldron in Diagon Alley, and later Harry destroyed the diary with the Basilisk's fang.

4. She Comforted Draco

When Draco Malfoy was feeling a lot of pressure of being a death eater, he told Myrtle about how he was chosen to kill Professor Albus Dumbledore and how it scared him, Myrtle comforted Draco because she understood him even though his situation was different from hers.

5. She Haunted Her Bully

A Hogwarts student named Olive Hornby would always tease Myrtle because of her glasses, Olive's teasing brought Myrtle to tears in the girl's bathroom on the same day she died. After Myrtle died she started haunting Olive every day until Olive complained to the Ministry, they ruled that Myrtle would remain at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

6. We Discovered Her Last Name In 2015

Myrtle's last name was not mentioned until 2015 when a fan asked J.K Rowling on Twitter and J.K Rowling replied back saying the Myrtle's last name is Warren, which means that her full name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren.

7. She Never Told Anyone About Her Death For Almost 50 Years

Myrtle never told anyone about how she died until she told Harry during his 2nd year at Hogwarts. It makes us question why she never told Headmaster Dippet or Albus Dumbledore, but when you think back in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets she told Harry that she was distraught because how she was bullied and she was deeply upset with Olive bullying Myrtle and how scared she was when she got killed by Tom Riddle and the Basilisk, and that's why she never told the Headmaster at Hogwarts and Albus Dumbledore.
