Acclaimed actor (and official Game of Thrones wedding party-pooper), , has signed up for 's The Strain. The Brit has been cast as Professor Abraham Setrakian, a Romanian Jew who escaped the Treblinka Death Camp in WWII. Emigrating to the US after the war, Setrakian has been hunting vampires for 60 years.

The role was originally given to John Hurt, but was recast at the behest of producers and network FX.

Here's the official synopsis:

The Strain’ follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City, as he and his team investigate what appears to be an outbreak of vampirism. They soon need to fight for the fate of humanity itself.

I think it's safe to say that there won't be any sparkly vampires moaning about their love lives in this show. It's going to be epic.

Thoughts on this casting news? Are you looking forward to The Strain?
