Who Is The Cursed Child?
Some may believe that this is an obvious question for those who have read the brand new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but it turns out that you may not have the same answer as everyone. Therefore...
Here's Who I Think The Cursed Child Is
So, first off, we know that it is a child. And here are all the children/teenagers in the book.
- Albus Severus Potter
- Scorpius Malfoy
- Rose Granger-Weasley
- Cedric Diggory
- James Sirius Potter
- Lily Luna Potter
- Hugo Granger-Weasley
- Delphi Diggory
First off, I think we can eliminate Hugo, Lily, Rose, and James because they had very minor roles in the play. We can also eliminate Cedric, because though Albus and Severus go to save him, he is not the main focus of the play. So, we are left with Albus, Scorpius, and Delphi.
I think we can eliminate Scorpius because although his mother dies, he is not very popular, and people think that he is the son of Voldemort, he is shown to be positive and saves the wizarding world.
Jonathan Carlin of the SuperCarlinBrothers has proposed a theory that states that the Cursed Child is none other than Harry himself and provides pretty legitimate points to it in this video.
I disagree with this theory simply due to the fact that it is titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. If Harry was the Cursed Child, that would basically make the title Harry Potter and Harry Potter.
So, we are left with two options: Albus and Delphi. Albus is the child of Harry, who, when we were first introduced to him, we expected that he would be a good child that'll get sorted into Gryffindor. However, he eventually gets sorted into Slytherin and becomes more and more depressed throughout the first several years.
Delphi is first introduced to us as a fun-spirited, cool teen that wants to help Albus and Scorpius with their mission. However, it is then revealed that she is the evil daughter of Lord Voldemort.
So, which one is the Cursed Child? Well, there is a child on the cover of the book, so let's take a look at that child.
First off, we can establish that this child is not Harry because the child has rather light hair, not dark hair. However, it is hard to tell whether the child is male or female. Many believe that it is either Albus or Delphi. But here's why I think Albus is the Cursed Child.
Let's take a look at the titles of all the books.
The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban (Sirius), The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows are all items/places/people/organizations that Harry faces in each book, and usually deals with them throughout the entire book.
Harry only fights Delphi at the end of the book. He only found out about her loyalty to Voldemort in around the third or fourth act. It is only then she poses a threat to him.
Now, we'll take a look at the "cursed" part. I don't think that this "curse" means a magical curse. I think this curse is more like this definition of "curse."
Although Delphi is the main antagonist of the book, I said earlier that the "Harry Potter and the ___________" would have something that Harry knows about for a while in the book. Delphi was only a curse to Harry at the end. However, one of Harry's early curses in the book was Albus.
Think about it. Albus made Harry so angry that he told Albus that he wished he wasn't his son. This is a statement Harry immediately regrets and this, along with Albus's actions in the rest of the book is a cause of Harry's misery.
This theory is just crazy enough to send Ron Weasley into a fit of expletives:
And that's why I think Albus is the Cursed Child. But what do you think?
