The media has covered Taylor Swift's dating life for years, but one of her relationships that caused the most online buzz happened in 2012 — her romance with former One Direction member Harry Styles. The couple didn't last long, and the split seemed less than amicable. Swift reportedly based three of her hits, "Style," "Out of the Woods" and "Trouble" on Styles.
All of that apparent drama has had us wondering for the better part of a decade: How does Harry Styles feel about Swift? Is he angry, is he mad, or is it too far in the past to drag him down? Well, we finally have an answer.
Harry Styles recently gave an interview to Rolling Stone. And following his new "honesty" moto, he opened up about that period in his life...
The Start Of Their Relationship
He began by talking about those now famous pictures of Swift and himself together in Central Park. Turns out that that date served as a dating learning process:
"When I see photos from that day, I think: Relationships are hard, at any age. And adding in that you don't really understand exactly how it works when you're 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn't make it easier. I mean, you're a little bit awkward to begin with. You're on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure. But at the heart of it – I just wanted it to be a normal date."
After that, came the part a lot of us are most excited to hear about...
Harry Styles finally opened up about those songs rumored to be based on him. (I mean, if the title "Style" wasn't a big enough clue.) The singer touched on Taylor's penchant for venting her private life in her music, stating:
"I mean, I don't know if they're about me or not, but the issue is, she's so good, they're bloody everywhere. I write from my experiences; everyone does that. I'm lucky if everything [we went through] helped create those songs. That's what hits your heart. That's the stuff that's hardest to say, and it's the stuff I talk least about. That's the part that's about the two people. I'm never going to tell anybody everything."
Of course, let's not forget that Styles himself might have written about Swift in his One Direction song "Perfect" with its line, "If you're looking for someone to write your breakup songs about / baby, I'm perfect."
The interview then took on a tough topic...
Getting Back In Touch With Swift
When asked about whether he had the chance to congratulate Swift on her songs (because, you know, that's exactly what you'd do if your ex wrote three songs about you), Styles said:
"Yes and no. She doesn't need me to tell her they're great. They're great songs... It's the most amazing unspoken dialogue ever."
He was then questioned about what he would say to the singer if he saw her again. After dodging the question for a bit, he responded:
"I don't know. Certain things don't work out. There's a lot of things that can be right, and it's still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the time together. ... And if you run into that person, maybe it's awkward, maybe you have to get drunk ... but you shared something. Meeting someone new, sharing those experiences, it's the best shit ever. So thank you."

That... was weirdly deep. Well, there you have it, that's what Styles had to say about his headline-breaking relationship with Taylor Swift. Considering all the drama that surrounded it, it's nice to see him being careful with his response and not venting out in anger.
Harry Styles' self-titled debut solo album will be released on May 12th. The first single is "Sign of the Times":
