Back in 2015, AMC's martial arts epic Into the Badlands quite literally exploded onto our screens. It boasted the third-highest cable debut, and its unique blend of breathtaking martial arts, heart-gripping drama and feudal politics continued to draw in millions of viewers week-on-week. Season 1 ended with our protagonists Sunny and M.K. divided, and fans have been clamoring to find out what happens next ever since.

Luckily, Season 2 of AMC's hit show Into The Badlands is almost upon us. We'll finally get to see the glorious martial arts and faction dynamics return on March 19th, when the show will debut its much-anticipated second instalment.

Check out the trailer for Into the Badlands Season 2 below:

A couple of months ago, I got to visit the set of Into The Badlands in Dublin, Ireland and I got an extensive look at the exciting times ahead in Season 2. After speaking to Sunny (Daniel Wu), The Widow (Emily Beecham) and the excellent costume designer Giovanni Lipari, I've gained a terrific insight to how Season 2 is shaping to look up. Let's take a look at some of the key developments we can expect in Into the Badlands Season 2.

1. Unique New Setting in Ireland

Sometimes, changing the shooting location can completely change the tone of a show. AMC is fantastic at choosing locations for their shows, like their brilliant use of the landscape of Albuquerque in Breaking Bad and Atlanta in The Walking Dead. The second season of Into The Badlands has been filmed in the outskirts of Dublin, and the scenery for the show is just beautiful. The historic ruins look fantastic with the greens of the woods, and it makes for a totally unique-looking show. When I was speaking to Daniel Wu (Sunny), he told me how much he enjoyed filming in Ireland:

It's amazing, I think the locations and sets we have around here give us more grand and epic cinematic feel.

2. More Fantastic Costumes

One thing Into The Badlands totally nailed in Season 1 was the art of fantastic costume design. The intricate costumes added both a sense of context and detail to show, and their attention to detail has progressed even further in Season 2. Giovanni Lipari told us how he plans to keep the beautiful costumes coming in Into The Badlands Season 2. I for one can't wait to see what he's come up with.

3. Even Bigger Fight Scenes

My absolute favourite thing about Into The Badlands is the amazing fighting scenes. These beautiful, well-choreographed scenes are awesome to watch, and I had the privilege of seeing them film one of them. It's very interesting to see just how long it takes to get the scene perfect. One simple strike can take ages to nail down. Although the choreography is Season 1 was undoubtedly superb, Daniel Wu says to expect bigger and better things in the season to come.

4. Nick Frost!

One fantastic addition to Season 2 is the casting of Nick Frost. You may recognize him from such hilarious movies as Hot Fuzz, The End of The World and Shaun of The Dead. The brilliant British-born actor is going to add a much-needed comedy element to the show, which will completely elevate the tone for Season 2, and make it a much more balanced show.

Nick Frost along with the rest of the cast are going to deliver us a fantastic Season 2 that all the fans can be happy with. Overall, it seems like the cast and crew have tapped into exactly what fans want from Into the Badlands Season 2; more of what made Season 1 such a hit, but on a whole new scale. Thus, we can expect more amazing costumes and killer fight scenes, but with new scenery and cast to take Into the Badlands to a whole new level. If you loved Season 1, make no mistake: Season 2 is going to blow your mind.
