It's been a great year for movie fans of all film genres. 2017 has given us some incredible, inventive movies that have excited us to no end. While there's much to praise about these films, one aspect that made these movies great was the inclusion of a wide variety of fantastic Hispanic actors. Their presence in movies like Blade Runner: 2049, Kong: Skull Island and Mother! have given said films great nuance and diversity, not only because these Hispanic actors are some of the most prolific actors of our generation, but also because they weren't cast in stereotypical Hispanic roles.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, here are ten Hispanic actors that have dominated movie screens in 2017.

10. John Ortiz

Puerto Rican actor John Ortiz appeared in many of this year's top movies. He played scientist Victor Nievez in , he was a police officer in A Dog's Purpose and starred alongside Hollywood veterans Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain and Alan Arkin in Going in Style. For those who may not readily recall, Ortiz made his big screen debut in 1993's Carlito's Way, where he played Al Pacino's character's young cousin. To date, he's probably best known for playing the villain Braga in the Fast and the Furious franchise.

9. Eiza Gonzalez

Eiza Gonzalez is a well-known celebrity in her native country Mexico, but this year she showed the world she has what it takes to become a movie star when she starred in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver opposite Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Ansel Elgort. In the film, she plays the character Darling, a machine gun-wielding badass who's not to be messed around with. She was one of the best parts of , so much that she has fans hoping she could play Catwoman in Gotham City Sirens.

8. Ana De Armas

Born in Cuba, Ana de Armas is proving to be one of the best actors of our times. Her performances in movies like Knock Knock, where she starred alongside Keanu Reeves, and War Dogs where she starred opposite Miles Teller and Jonah Hill, put her on the Hollywood spotlight. But it's this year where she has completely won over the hearts of audiences everywhere with her performance in Denis Villeneuve's . Here she plays Joi, an artificial intelligence program that aids the movie's main protagonist, Officer K, played by Ryan Gosling.

7. Aubrey Plaza

Aubrey Plaza not only acted in what's perhaps the best indie films of the year, Ingrid Goes West, but she also produced it, too. The half-Puerto Rican star played a social media stalker in the film as well as playing a sexually-repressed nun named Fernanda in another dark indie comedy, The Little Hours. Ingrid Goes West is already on its way to becoming a cult classic with its underlying meanings about health and social media use. Plaza not only captivated the indie scene, she was one of the main draws in the TV series Legion this year, where she played the main villain of the show.

6. Javier Bardem

Bardem in undoubtedly an acting legend, both in Spain and in America, but this year he starred in two of the best movies of the year. He played Him, a representation of the Christian God in Mother! opposite Jennifer Lawrence. The film was met with polarizing reviews due to it strong thematic contents; while some critics hated it, other critics called it a masterpiece. This year Bardem also starred in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, where he played the main antagonist Captain Salazar.

5. Oscar Isaac

Oscar Isaac, the Guatemalan actor who made his breakthrough performance in the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, is one of the most prominent Hispanic actors working in Hollywood today. After the landing the role of Poe Dameron in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Isaac became one of the most beloved actors in the industry.

He's definitely had a busy 2017 and will continue to do so later this year. He wrapped up shooting the 2018 sci-fi film Annihilation (where's he's re-teaming with Ex Machina director Alex Garland). He's also a standout in the George Clooney-directed film Suburbicon, and he's set to reprise his role as Poe Dameron in .

4. Diego Luna

Born in Mexico, Diego Luna cemented his star status with his amazing performance as Cassian Andor in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but he's been starring in great movies for a while now. Some of his best acting chops include his performances in Alfonso Cuarón's 2001 film Y Tu Mama Tambien, Gus Van Sant's Oscar-winning film Milk and the 2013 movie Elysium. This year, Luna starred in Sony's Flatliners reboot and appeared in Ana Lily Amirpour's The Bad Batch.

3. Pedro Pascal

Pedro Pascal is most known on the small screen as Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones or DEA Agent Javier Pena from Netflix's Narcos. In 2016 he starred alongside Matt Damon in The Great Wall. This year, though, he was arguably the best addition to the Kingsman franchise in said franchise's latest installment The Golden Circle. In The Golden Circle, the Chilean actor played Whiskey, a lasso-wielding special agent with a mustache as suave as his Narcos' counterpart's.

2. Zoe Saldana

These days, Zoe Saldana is a true movie star; this year, she blessed the silver screen with her fantastic performance as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Ever since her breakthrough performance in James Cameron's Avatar, Saldana has starred in many great films such as Colombiana, Takers and the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy films. This year she will also star in the animated movie My Little Pony: The Movie.

1. Fred Armisen

The half-Venezuelan multi-talented Fred Armisen completely dominated Hollywood in 2017. He had prominent roles in the aforementioned The Little Hours, the Emma Stone and Steve Carell film Battle of the Sexes and The Lego Ninjago Movie. Armisen is known for his Emmy-nominated show Portlandia and for his sketches on Saturday Night Live. He has also appeared in movies such as Anchorman, Easy A, The Smurfs and Zoolander 2.
