History Channel are clearly feeling ambitious, as their next move is a remake of Roots. The original 1977 TV series, Roots, which followed the life and legacy of the enslaved west African Kunta Kinte, is widely acknowledged to be a television masterpiece, garnering 9 Emmy wins out of an impressive 37 nominations.

With the buzz surrounding 's 12 Years A Slave, History Channel can be fairly sure that their project will be met by a receptive audience, albeit pretty hard-hitting stuff for a network more associated with less gritty topics. Hopefully the harrowing content of the source material will be treated wisely, generating new respect for the survivors of the brutal history of slavery in a new generation.

Will you be watching the History Channel adaptation of Roots? It won't be a pleasant watch, but a good adaptation would be challenging viewing with a heavy emotional punch. Let us know your thoughts below.
