, the famous British comic and original creator of The Office has brought a new comedy to Netflix. Derek follows a socially awkward but kind hearted man who works in a care home, always going beyond the call of duty for his residents.

Derek stars writer, director and executive producer, Ricky Gervais, with his long time comic collaborator playing Derek's colleague and landlord, Dougie. If you are a fan of British comedies such as The Office, Little Britain and The Royle Family, you will love this. Take a look at the trailer.

Derek was met with controversy in the UK for allegedly mocking those with learning disabilities through the portrayal of the titular character. Gervais has always strongly denied that Derek is mentally disabled, maintaining that his creation is just eccentric. He also voiced support for the type of marginalised groups featured in the show:

Half my family are care workers. My sister works with kids with learning difficulties. My sister-in-law works in a care home for people with Alzheimer's. And four or five of my nieces work in old people's homes. I always write about what I know

Derek comes to Netflix on September 12, 2013. All seven half-hour episodes will be available simultaneously.
