Once per year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce chooses stars to be embedded into Hollywood's sidewalk, known as Hollywood's Walk of Fame. And now we know which new celebrity names will be forever plastered under the shoes of L.A. tourists.
Walk of Famer and Committee member, Vin Di Bona, announced yesterday:
"The Committee looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected an eclectic group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world. As a Walk of Famer myself, I know these honorees will remember the dedication of their stars with great memories and will be proud that they are part of Hollywood's history now and forever."
The honorees include sci-fi/fantasy/horror/superhero luminaries such as Gillian Anderson, Lynda Carter, Ryan Murphy, Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Goldblum, Mark Hamill, Jennifer Lawrence and and Zoe Saldana. (Full list below.)
One tearjerker in particular came from the daughter of legendary crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, who will receive a Hollywood star. On her Instagram, Bindi Irwin wrote:
"I am beyond excited to share with you all that we have just received the news that Dad will be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dad changed the world by reaching out to people through their television screens to bring them on the adventure of a lifetime. To have his name on a Hollywood Star means the world as we carry on his important work."
The symbolic stars are meant to honor television, film, theater, music and radio personalities who have made distinct contributions to the world of entertainment. It's thrilling to see some of the reactions the stars are making to the monumental news that their hard work is getting tangible recognition. Kirsten Dunst even made her mom cry:
"OMG I'm crying and at Vons. I'm so happy," the text said. "Tell me more Sat. Can we celebrate?"
There are not yet scheduled dates for the celebrities to receive their honors— however, they have two years to schedule their ceremony before it expires. Here is the full list of 2018 Walk of Fame recipients:
