Hollywood's classic monsters may be having a hard time in live-action, but they've been thriving in animation thanks to the Hotel Transylvania series, which centers around a kindhearted Count Dracula and his daughter, Mavis, as they navigate the treacherous hotel business alongside their monstrous friends and family. The saga has proved to be a big hit with audiences, and now, a third installment, helmed by Genndy Tartakovsky, is underway.
This time around, Count Dracula (#AdamSandler), Mavis (#SelenaGomez), and the rest of their family are leaving Hotel Transylvania to go on a cruise. To the Count's misfortune, what was supposed to be a relaxing cruise turns into a nightmare, because he encounters an unexpected enemy and reunites with his father.
Get Ready To Welcome Back The Hotel Transylvania Family
The film is still a few months away (not that I'm counting), but #Sony decided to hype up the animated adventure by treating fans with our very first trailer. As you might have imagined, it's hilarious, so check it out in all of its monstrous glory:
Yep, classic #HotelTransylvania. I particularly loved the opening scene, with Dracula's pet going after the unsuspecting skeleton tourists. Now, the film won't be all just a big giant vacation for the monster family, it will also show the Count taking a big step forward by getting into a relationship with the ship's captain, Ericka.
Speaking to People, Selena Gomez revealed that due to this, Mavis is going to reverse roles with her father and essentially become the over-protective figure of the movie:
"This time around, we are all leaving the hotel on a summer monster cruise which is a fun change. The comedic situations the characters from the first two films find themselves in might be the funniest yet! My dad Drac begins dating, so in this one Mavis acts as the overprotective parent. I had a good time playing up that dynamic!"
She might have good reasons to be concerned. Remember the baddie I mentioned earlier? That might be Dracula's new love interest, because she's a descendant of the renowned vampire hunter, Abraham Van Helsing. Assuming the apple didn't fall far from the family tree, Ericka could present a serious threat to our beloved vampire.
As if that wasn't enough of a burden, Dracula will also have to deal with his father, Vlad, voiced by #MelBrooks. Going by how much the patriarch vampire enjoyed having the attention of other monsters, he's vastly different from his son, so seeing their conflicting personalities collide will sure be a fun ride.
We've seen quite a few franchises that have become stale over time, but thankfully, this new installment in the Hotel Transylvania series seems like a worthy continuation of the story.
Hotel Transylvania 3 will fly into theaters on July 13, 2018.
