Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the second-most anticipated film of 2017, according to a recent poll of Fandango readers, and that's really saying something with competition such as Spider-Man: Homecoming, Logan, Wonder Woman, Justice League and many more all vying for the mighty box office dollar.

We can't wait to see Vol. 2, but in the meantime we can guess how it ends: the Guardians will be on their way to help Earth's Mightiest Heroes from the Mad Chin, Thanos, teasing their appearance in Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Here are five reasons why the Guardians of the Galaxy will probably be earthbound soon.

1. They Have To Warn Earth About Thanos

There are currently two Infinity Stones on Earth — Mind and Time — and Thanos will be coming for them personally. The Guardians may become privy to that information, and decide to head to Earth to warn humanity of its impending doom. With Gamora and Nebula both being raised by Thanos, they may have crucial information that could give the Avengers a chance to stop him.

2. Star-Lord Wants To Come Home

Sorry, Quill, you just picked the worst possible time to visit your Terra. Peter will most likely find some sort of closure after meeting his father, Ego the Living Planet, in Vol. 2. Sadly, he will probably end up disappointed because his father turned out to be some egomaniac whose sole purpose is to conquer the universe (it's all in the name).

This disappointment could convince Peter to leave the team behind and head back to his home planet for a little alone time... in which case, the Guardians may follow their leader, unknowingly headed into a battle far greater than they could have ever expected.

3. The Guardians Plan To Steal The Stones To Hide Them From Thanos

Somehow the Guardians could discover that Earth holds two Infinity Stones, and Peter feels the Avengers would be unable to protect them from Thanos (and he's probably right). Is Earth the best place to store the Stones? No.

This could potentially be a scene-stealing action sequence with the Avengers battling the Guardians in one big misunderstanding. (Hulk vs. Groot!) This would be amazing to see on the big screen.

4. A Carol Danvers Rescue Mission

Marvel Studios is going to change the origin of how Ms. Marvel receives her powers due to how closely the story resembles Green Lantern's. Is it possible we'll see her lost in space and the Guardians rescuing her? This would be an amazing post-credits scene that would set the Guardians on their way to Earth by introducing Phase 4's most prominent superhero (perhaps besides Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Black Panther). This doesn't necessarily mean that Brie Larson will appear, but who'd be against seeing her sooner than expected?

5. Thor Recruits Them

It just makes too much sense for the only alien on the Avengers to recruit other aliens in the fight against the Titan with chin for days. The Guardians will have one of the most fearsome reputations in the galaxy, and that's exactly what Thor will need.

However it happens, the Guardians will no doubt play a huge role in the upcoming two-part Avengers: Infinity War because they're box office gold — plus, they have a cast of heroes who'll be vital to stopping Thanos. The only surprise is what brings them to Earth, and I can't wait to find out!

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
