It's the cameo of all cameos. If this cameo were a car, it'd be a Lamborghini Veneno. If this cameo were a planet, it'd be Jupiter. If this cameo were... you get the point; basically, everyone wants to see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine join Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, but the chances of it happening are remote.

However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were introduced to an idea that is ingenious by nature. Although Jackman has hung up his claws, never to play Wolverine again after Logan, what if he appears in Deadpool 2 as... himself? Reese responded:

"Oh my gosh, that's one we haven't heard. That's not a bad idea. I like that. Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He's got the People's Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh. That would be really funny."

How Hugh Jackman Could Cameo In 'Deadpool 2'

The beauty of is its fourth-wall breaking, meta nature is that it makes something like this completely plausible. As Reese mentions, Jackman exists within the Deadpool universe, as an actor who plays (Wade Wilson comments on the confusing timelines in the movie), meaning Wade Wilson could meet the star behind the superhero persona.

In some ways, it'd even make more sense that Jackman making an appearance in character as Wolverine. A huge emphasis of will be the inclusion of Cable, the half-cyborg who will partner Deadpool and go on to become one of the biggest players in the upcoming, R-rated X-Force movies.

Cable acts as the antithesis of Deadpool's lighthearted, joke-making persona. He's stoic, but also has a dry sense of humor. With all these qualities taken into consideration, an appearance from Wolverine could clash due to similarities between the pair, possibly undermining Cable's introduction. playing himself, on the other hand, allows for a balance of both worlds, and would be comedy gold.

Moving On From 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'

had appeared opposite Jackman's Wolverine before, playing the less-said-about-it-the-better version of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Due to the way that encounter was received, a reunion would be redemptive, helping to erase that part of the X-Men universe from memory.

Prior to the release of Deadpool last year, there was speculation of a Wolverine cameo, which resulted in Reynolds teasing fans in a scene near the end of the movie, where Wade Wilson reveals a printout of Jackman's face under his Deadpool mask.

Since the early rumors of a collaboration, Deadpool has become a huge success, and Jackman's well-received last appearance as Wolverine in Logan has only further ignited the hope the pair will share the big screen. And it might yet happen, but in true Deadpool fashion, not quite how we'd initially imagined.
