The Walking Dead has hordes of fans lumbering after its every moment of blood-spattered action, but the star of the show is not so keen. , who plays survivor leader Rick Grimes says that he refuses to watch The Walking Dead on TV.

The original reason is the fact that I don’t actually enjoy looking at’s a self-conscious thing of watching myself and going, 'Oh I like it when I do that. That’s kind of cool.' And then, 'Oh, I don’t like it when I do that.' And that defeats the object of what I want to do as an actor.

Aw, so he actually loves The Walking Dead, and just gets too embarrassed and distracted watching his own face on camera, despite his extreme handsomeness. Is that right, Andrew?

I just want to leave myself alone as much as I can. It breaks the spell, it breaks the magic somewhat...I kind of step back from it all.

He is also very, very excited about getting the chance to direct certain Walking Dead episodes:

I get turned on by the whole thing.

Andrew Lincoln may not enjoy watching Rick in action, but he has a palpable love for The Walking Dead, which seems to be one of those projects like The Lord of the Rings where the cast get completely immersed in their story. Maybe the Walking Dead cast will get matching zombie tattoos, that'd be rad.

What do you think of Andrew Lincoln not watching The Walking Dead? Personally, as long as I get to see it, I'm not bothered what other people choose to do.

Season 4 of The Walking Dead premieres October 13. Full interview with Andrew Lincoln at the EW.
