Filmmaking legend Martin Scorsese has admitted that he only has a couple more films left in him and while he still has the desire, time is no longer on his side :
I have the desire to make many films, but as of now I'm 71 and there's only a couple more left if I get to make them. I miss the time when I had the desire to experiment and try different kinds of films, I miss that time, but that's done, it's over. There is obligation as you get older, you have family.
Considering that most guys Scorsese's age are sitting at home in their slippers watching re-runs of Jeopardy, it's incredible that he's still at the forefront of movie-making. Despite the massive success he's achieved over his career, it could be argued that he's currently operating at the peak of his powers and is consistently making excellent films.
Scorsese has also credited with keeping him going in the industry. Since first working together on Gangs of New York, they have collaborated on five films in total, including the upcoming The Wolf of Wall Street and the Oscar-winning The Departed:
As you get older it gets physically difficult and also the business especially - the financial issues. You're responsible for a lot of money, if you get it. It's all pressure, but can you do it? His (DiCaprio) enthusiasm and excitement really kept me going, for another five pictures now.
As sad as I will be to see Marty call time on his illustrious career, if his next two movies are as good as the ones that have come before, it will be the most fitting of goodbyes.
