Ever wondered what it would be like to go on a coffee date with The Vampire Diaries thesp Ian Somerhalder?

Yes, you'd be lost in the whirlpool of his frosty, blue eyes. Yes, you'd desperately be trying to master telepathy and make him sink his pretty pearly whites into your neck. And yes, you'd be so starstruck by the ultra smouldery super-babe that you'd lose the power of speech and become a quivering, giggling mess. Luckily, though, that wouldn't matter, because Ian has something important to tell you. It's his explanation for why he's carried a mug into the cafe with him; all part of his grand plan to help reduce waste by stopping the use of disposable paper cups.

Launched in 2010, Ian's Ian Somerhalder Foundation hopes to educate people on the importance of protecting the environment and animals. Could this Vampire Diaries star get any sweeter? The actor, who plays Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, has just launched a new campaign for his foundation, offering part of a solution to wasting the world's natural resources:

Paper cups are often coated in polyethylene, a waxy substance which prevents the cup from being recycled. Polystyrene, one of the most widely used plastics, never degrades completely, making your plastic cup harmful to the environment. Plastic cups are often made from a petroleum base, and the use of this fossil fuel can have a negative impact as it releases pollutants and greenhouse gases into the air and has the potential to damages ecosystems in events such as oil spills.

To participate in this campaign, send your name and start date (anytime before February 28, 2014) to: [email protected]

C'mon guys, seriously, let's do this... It could be the closest we ever get to a coffee date with the Smoulder-holder!

The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8 P.M. ET on The CW.
