In a case of life almost tragically imitating art, Lost alumn Ian Somerhalder revealed in a tweet that he was supposed to be on board TWA flight 800 bound for Paris, that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 passengers and crew on board:

Somerhalder didn't give any reasons as to why he didn't make the flight, but it was a massive stroke of luck for The Vampire Diaries star and his legion of fans.

The plane crash has been surrounded in controversy with some speculating that the aircraft had been hit by a bomb or a meteorite. Despite an investigation concluding that the crash was caused by a center fuel tank explosion, former investigators have called for the evidence to be reexamined after claims that the findings were “falsified.”
